Hey guys, I'm a relative beginner, but I've had my trials bike long enough to know I don't want a seat anymore. I've had the unpleasant experience of catching my junk on the tip of the seat too many times, so I finally did it, I cut off the top of the seat tube, and filed it smooth. I even painted the exposed aluminum flat black, so it matches. I dig the final product.
The first picture is one I messed with in MS paint to see how it'd look once cut off.

The second pic is with the work finally done permanently...

And here's another, to show my mad painting skills...

I like the way it turned out, and I hope it allows me to continue utilizing my favorite parts, because as we all know, bikes are fun and games, but other things are more important, right?

Go ahead, call me an idiot. :slap:

Good work, looks like new. How does your shimano brake work? Havent seen too many on trials.

Well, so far with EBC red pads, they work great! Once they were broken in, the pads started working awesome. My wheels both lock with authority, but they also have great modulation, which feels good to me. I don't really like an on/off brake.
People have said before that the brake levers would cause me problems in trials riding, but none so far.

I dig my new bike.

Now you're going to get harassed why you don't have a seat! :) Looks great though.

not sure if it'll fit, but if you have an old headset, or some old headset parts.. you could try putting a star nut in the hole, and then threading a topcap in.. just to make it flush.

pretty much a cosmetic idea, but it might stop dirt and rain getting in there.. provided it works.. I've never tried it.

Oh man, this forum rules. This above post made me laugh out loud. (edit for clarification)

Also, the rear tire is an old Tioga something or other I had lying around in the basement, after I ripped the Bontrager I had on there before. It's not ideal, but it works for now.

Thanks guys!

Looks nice. I cant believe you are riding those dual controls. To each there own. I was riding with my buddy a few months ago on his Alibongo and some one actually asked us WHY he has a seat.....That was a first:rofl:

having a disk on the rear would be a concern for me because I would be scared of sidehoping onto the disk. btw your bike looks better without the seat

Ive done the starnut dealio, 1 1/8 starnuts are a bit too small in diameter, Id of used some 1.5s and trimmed the hooks.......either that or use alot of electical tape to fill the gap:ugh2: not that I would ever do something like that:slap:

yea, filling the hole is totally unneeded.. but it looks cool..

I had mine cut off on my old bike, and then just covered it with duct tape and foam so I wouldn't cut my balls open on bails.

Thats a good idea, I think mine just may get cut. Afterall I'll save .75 of a lb taking off my seat, shim, and clamp.

monty used to sell a carbon sticker for the X-lite that went right over that spot...I'm sure you can still get them they look nice and it doesnt get much easier than placing a sticker over top of the hole...hmm holes are fun..hmm
