I just ordered an echo rim, and run Vee brakes with Salsa Trial pads. Now, I am wondering if it will be ok not to grind this rim. I really don’t want to, but if the pads are just going to slip; then yeah. Grind time.
Has anyone run an Echo rim with out grinding it, while running vee’s?
My buddy rides a HiFi and hasn’t ground his rims, but also has HS-33’s.

I rode my Hifi for quite a while without a grind, but I was also using the plazmatic pad that could be used with or without a grind. (I was also using the HS-33's)
The only time I noticed any slippage was when I was riding in wet conditions.
I finally ground the rims and will never ride without a grind again! Huge difference! I know it doesnt look pretty, but it's worth it.

Indeed.
I am thinking that I should grind them, just to be on the safe side. But like you said, their so nice.

I was jealous of my buddys non-ground rim. It worked great and looked soooo nice......Until it got a drip of water on it. It was like not even having brakes. So long story short grind:Sonic: I love my ground rim with Toxsin pads. Works very well!!

Why not just try it without a grind for a bit and see how it goes? Just don't try anything TOO big. ;)

40 ft 360 fire road gap yo!
I dont do much over 5 feet. I also dont trust the elements like rain or snow as of yet. I'll wait for HS-33's before I do.

Vees work just as well as maggies, and I don't understand why people still don't get that.

I've used Maggie's for about 8 years. I love them!! Smooth and strong....But I do have a few friends running V's and I must say I was pretty impressed. They had the Spanish Fly pads on ground rims.

what do you want to here? Everyboy is going to say that ground rims are far superior to non ground rims. You can run smooth, it can stop. Run some tar if you really don't want to grind them. BT came out with some pads for smooth rims i think, no experience with them, dunno if anybody else does. My guess is they work, but not as well as a ground rim.

They work just as well as a grind, when they're completely clean, and dry. Like someone mentioned, a drop of water, and they actually stop working. Entirely. Water barely affects braking performance on a grind. I just ground my rim a few weeks ago and found no difference in braking in the dry, but a huge difference in the wet.

even w/ grind or w/o grind, if there is a drop of water, it will sure affect its brakin performance. unless u hav heavy grind, the performance will only affect a bit only..
Nobody WANTS to grind their rims, it's an ugly, shitty thing to do.... but it works, and it works well. You're going to grind it eventually... and you'll be glad you did, so go grind it already.

I still don't have either rims ground, perhaps I should get that done.

with anodized echo rims, and toxin pads....literally 1 drop of water....and the brakes were like they weren't even there! I mean complete 100% failure with the equilivant of 2 drops of sweat.
Grind them

I was there to witness the fun! ;)....The wheel was doing the opposite of stopping.

:eek3: So if I got some of those rims and pads, and then used the brake, it would move the wheel and push me forward??? Free energy ftw
