Next time you should ask BEFORE you buy something ;)
I think the tryall is totally overpriced! For the price of a tryall rear hub and a good freewheel you could get a king hub... but I guess you know that ;)

But from what I've heard so far, the tryalls hold up pretty well, better than the echos.

I think woodman actually makes a fixed hub now that is high in quality and finally a reasonable weight as well.

Probably would have been better to go with that one over the tryall. I think its cheaper too.

[EDIT]

Yep they do.
http://woodmancomponents.com/products/hubs/bill_trial_comp.html

its on par with what a king would weigh and it comes with a steel drive shell.

don't ya think it's normal that try-all is more expensive than all the rest?
the half you pay is for the name's reputation ;)

is woodman back? i heard from everyone they were gone...?

the try-all hubs had problems with the bearings getting some slop in them. had something to do with the tollerence being good until they ano'ed the hub then it caused a little sloppier tollerence which got worse to a point and then stayed the same until the hub crapped out. so you may have a slight wobble soon, if it happens, consider it normal.

the hub today
its quite nice. a lot smoother than the echo. i hope i dont have the bearing problems

if anyone cares i used 268mm spokes for both sides with an echo rim

it worked pretty good

For some reason, 268 didn't work out for me. I ended up with this.... oh well, maybe it'll be stiffer.

nice wheel felix
is there any structural advantage over standard lacing patterns with a wheel like that?

flixlee

In some ways the wheel is stiffer because there is very little flex from the twist to the hub. On the other hand, a little flex keeps the wheel from outright exploding. I didn't have this in mind when I started, the spoke length you posted was waaaay too long.:slap:

Wow those spokes are going to snap.

netto

haha felix i dont have the same hub

i have the none disc version, which means the flanges are further apart.
the result of this is that i need longer spokes than you.

um yeah, why'd you build it like that. couldn't you just do like a 4 cross or some shit. whatever, if it works for now.

It'll be fine, I've seen wheels built up into a "hockenheim" pattern using the 3cm longer spokes (one for each twist) and it was pretty bitchen,.. wish I still had that wheel.

Don't get a king, they are overpriced shit, you can get cheaper stuff that is just as good, in some cases better.
Theres too much variety now to waste your money on a king.

I'm down with paying $200 to have a hub that I haven't touched in literally thousands of hours of riding :dunno:

How much are they in australia?

I went to get some spokes cut once and the guy cut the wrong size. I ended up having to twist them up and it actually lasted a long time.

it looks cool,

they're the same as what you pay Andy + an extra $10 postage, unless you go through the distributor/a shop. Which nobody does.
