I have a very old frame... and i'd really like a new one. I'm looking at the zoo python because I want something really long.

The frame has no bash plate.. and with my set up I have a white industries cog on my front crank arm (72 engagment) with a bash plate covering it. If there isn't a way to have a bashplate on a python.. is there a way to get a bash gaurd to go with a front cog...?

Depends on your cranks whether or not you can put a bash on. E.g. the tryall isis cranks (160mm and 165mm version) can't be used with freewheel AND bash, as the thread isn't wide enough. I think most of the short mod cranks don't accept freewheel and bash.

So just check if there is enough thread left to put a bash on. I'd say you need at least 5mm. But be sure that the freewheel is completely threaded onto the crank, when used with a bash! Not only half the way, in order to make a bash fit...

there isn't really room.. and i have stock monty crank arms still.. they don't have a hole to bolt a bash on.. i could make one...

puting a hole in cranks probably isnt the best idea, i imagine it would weaken them.
you would be best to buy new cranks that have a wide enough thread to take a bash ring as well...there is no way to put a bash plate on a bashless frame, well not without welding and stuff i assume. or is there? :dunno:

Agreed...You dont drill holes in things you rely on to keep you somewhat safe.

Why bolt a hole??? Just put the bash on the cranks and the freewheel will push against the bash and hold it in place.

If your monty cranks are the ones on the pic, it might work. These guys have a bash on them and if I see it right, the freewheel is on the front (fixed cog on the back).

that is how my set up is

I have an extra bash gaurd around and it's really thin.. so do you think if there was enough to press it in, it could stay in there?

or would i need more of a special kind of bash gaurd like that one in the picture

Do you have a pic of your setup? I don't really get what you mean... So your setup is like the one on the pic, with just one ring?

Anyways... You won't need a special bash, just get one of these

or whatever you like and then thread the freewheel on!

hmm, is it just me or does threading a freewheel on to hold on a bash guard seem like a bad idea?

I mean, if you mess up and hit hard, it just seems to me, there is a large possability of stripping the freewheel

the bash guard would put alot of pressure, and mostly on one side if the plate hits and tries to slant \, it would push the top more than the bottom..

just not sure how strong that would be.. that and hopefully the freewheel wont rub it when it is spinning

you could always run longer cranks with bcd for bash plate

what the hell frame is that first one in the pic???

and dont they just make a front freewheel crank you toss on a bashring then thread your freewheel on?

Thats the way that pretty much every front freewheel crank setup works. It works just fine.
