Has anyone had any experience with this type of BB for trials use.

I was going to try, but it's a Howitzer and said it needed to be used with Howitzer compatible cranks. I didn't feel like learning the hard way, so I didn't try it.

I'm interested to try it now.

The truvativ howitzer bb is sweet. Its stiffer because the bearings are larger. different manufacturers and different styles. some suck, some are awesome.

Truvativ = awesome

Shasta, are you talking about using that with regular ISIS cranks in place of a 128 from FSA or Truvativ?

I'd think you'd have problems with lots of frames for trials with howitzer cranks, since they simulate a 113 or 118 bb, but if you could use regular ISIS cranks on them, they'd be hella wide.

If you buy one, make sure you buy the Team one, not the regular one. The team one is cnc'd and bad ass.

i'm pretty sure those do not have the same spline as isis.

Yeah I thought I remember seeing somewhere that it is not the ISIS-defined spline type.

In any case Echo already has one out, it's just damn expensive.

Yes, I was going to replace a FSA 118 that I am currently running.

After futher reading online I learned, as noted above, these will not work with the standard ISIS spline. So I guess this idea is out.

I have one on my DH bike and it seems to be working well. Cosidering I hucked my ass off some NS shit and it didn't break. I am still not sure if it's going to be able to hold up or not, my bike mech buddy says there great. My isis cranks, did work on this type of BB.

I just wish they would keep it simple, I had to buy another tool for this one..:(

the cranks need to be howitzer compatible. it has to do with how much the arm goes on the spindle and where it stops. just because an isis crank arm slid on the spindle doesnt mean it's sitting on it the right way.

the external bearing stuff is great. it's stronger, cheaper to replace, and more durable. for trials though the tolerances are kinda tight. you need to run usually like a 24t ring to clear the bearing. with everyone running crazy small stuff up front these days, there isnt much in the market for trials riders in these set ups. for any other kind of biking, the stuff ishard to beat. just keep running isis stuff for trials for now.

And from my short experience with them, they aren't worth the buy.
