The Problem...
It seems to me that there has been an unjust lack of video of the very talented New England area riders. Although I've done my part in the still photography department, I've been remiss in my responsibilities of showcasing the incredible riders and riding in the area. This must change!
The Solution...

There're just some things that still photography can't convey. Although I'll still be doing plenty of that.

Jesus the microphone on that thing........
You going to get a backpack for that one too? Or just a bigger backpack? Next thing you know Erik has a mule with him carrying all of his toys.

 i dig. i dunno if the massive mic is needed? your going to be putting music over the riding so theres not much diegetic sound heard

I saw Erik at the Raccoon Rally, he needs a sherpa, one of the monks that lives on Mt. Everest, just to carry the stuff of the climbers, a mule would be nice too, but it would probably poop on the sections, at least Sherpas wouldn't do that.

next toy

Actually it's an optical illusion, the mic is normal size, the camera is really pretty small. It comes with a mic just like that one, but I heard it wasn't nearly as good as the Rode one. Which is only about $50 more. So I figure I'll sell the stock one to recoup some cost.
It'll all fit in the same gigantic backpack. I may just have to leave a tele lens home, which I wouldn't need shooting trials anyway.

words cannot express my jealousy. I wish I could afford a new camera - how much was that?

I don't even know what that is, but you should send it to me.
If I remember correctly the base itself is 2 grand??? Or it could've been more :eek3: I want one just for bragging rights.

hd isnt hdv. you can pretty much only edit hdv practically in final cut. unless you have a big-balls computer, dont bother shooting in hdv either, just do regular res, or shoot hdv and import down-res'ed.
sweeet new toy you got there. im glad im not the only guy out there trying to pull tripple duty :)

iMovie, Final Cut Express, and of course Final Cut Pro will edit HDV. I imported some footage yesterday on my 1.67ghz laptop and it imported at 1/2 speed, not too bad really. I'm assuming some of the new machines can do it in real time. HDV footage takes about the same space as DV because of better (I think) compression. I haven't tried rendering anything yet, I'll try that today and let you know how it goes.

very nice!!..... I'm not playing Trials sherpa anymore for you Eric unless you get rid of some of your gear..... you might have a problem :sadwavey: ... I'm thinking some kind of one-on-one or maybe a 30 day admission to a clinic somewhere for your little problem!:momaru:

You're right. I need help.
Maybe a useful link for Netto and other

I know nothing about the PC side, there may very well be a HDV solution, there must be. If not that's pretty lame.

way new version of avid i think can handle hdv... aside from that you can edit hd on crazy expensive editing boxes, maybe quantells and smokes and shit like that.
hdv is a sony sales generator/market bully format. it's a bridge format that wont be around for a long time. yes, it is better quality (technically) than standard def. mainly because the camera has to have a nicer lens on it though. real hd is still a ways out as far as being practicle. sooo... hdv.
ask yourself what you are shooting for. if you are doing web videos, any 3ccd camera is going to look more or less the same. shoot in good light with the right settings and your web vid will look great. if you want to put out to dvd or something like that, maybe it is worth it to you to go hdv. you just have to think about the right tool for the job.
tripple duty- stills, video, rider. im spread too thin for sure. my riding sucks these days.

i just looked at the cam again, i think that's the one denehy is using to shoot with these days.
just a heads up from what ive experienced with hdv- be mighty careful with your WB and make sure exposure and all that crap is good. you can get away with slop a bit in things like that in sd but even hdv brings out your opperator errors on the screen.

Yes, all that and focus too. It has a focus expander function where it zooms in so you can see what you're focusing on a little better. I'll be putting that to use.
I just rendered a 1080i file with a bit rate of 1Mb/s with h.264. It took 2hrs to encode and didn't play too smoothly on my old computer. I had a few apps open, so it may have been better playing on it's own.
