I don't know many people that are in the area for trials, one that I used to ride with is out of town for a while. I haven't really ridden in a while, and I'm a beginner in the first place. I just haven't really had the motivation to do much lately. Have any of you been through this? What did you do to motivate yourself?

Welcome. Try to figure out why you don't wanna ride anymore. You're a beginner so I'm betting you're getting frustrated by not seeing results (it's the most common reason, anyway). Try to set goals for yourself, such as see how long you can hold a trackstand or rocking. Try working on different moves to get a bit of variety. In the end, trials is about having fun and you should just be trying to have it. For the longest time I didn't care if I progressed at all, I just loved being on a bike, so just try to have fun. Good luck!

Find other people to ride with or make other people ride too. I have the most fun riding with a lot of people. Riding by yourself sucks.

One thing that works great is to pick one small area and come up with creative ways to traverse it. Also watch vids of people riding before you go. If one particular move is not happening then try something else. Riding by yourself is a great way to practice as you are not BSing and you don't feel guilty trying the same line a bunch of times.

ride with a friend. i wouldnt have gotten into it but my friend would learn something so i could have to learn it too or the other way round. watch vids even if you cant do anything in the vids, they still pump me up to ride. if you still with it long enough buy a bike? when i went from my full suspention mt bike to a rigid one with hs 33's i was psyched and even got up at 6 to ride before school when i first got it. dont feel like you have to go ride though. i dont ride all winter and i rairly ride in the fall too or i wont even ride for a week or so(dont have the time), but thats why i suck too probably, but it also keeps me from burning out i think

thats an aspect of trials that I think a lot of people don't really pay a lot of attention to. One of my favoritte parts (especially with natural, but also works with urban) is to spend a few minutes looking at a set of obstacles and try to think of the most creative way I can tie them together. Get past the whole "up this, gap that, sidehop that" mentality and try adding some spins and style to your riding. I have spent hours on the corner of the sidewalk in front of my house doing this. Its also something you can do when not on the bike, resting or whatever.

Four FortyOne... where do you live? You may be suprised as to how many riders there are near you. I live about 45 mins north west of Philly.

Vids usually motivate me, and getting ready for any upcoming comps usually gets me pumped too.

Another thing you should try is playing with your setup. Lever/bar angle lever throw etc. You might discover that your current setup is not the best.

I live in Michigan, I have already found pretty much everyone, hehe. Thanks for the advice, people. I'm actually picking up some pallets and I'm going to be just working with those in my driveway doing everything I can with them. I am psyched for that. I am going to follow the advice you all gave me, that is everything excluding buying new things. No tengo dinero :)
