Since my other competition was cancelled, and I still need and would like to put one on, I am thinking about holding a comp in Richmond VA. This is the spot. http://www.observedtrials.net/vb/showthread.php?t=21254
For now I need to know if anyone is willing to come down and help out. Please post saying if your are interested in competing, helping, or both. Thanks,
-Mikey

Depending on when you are looking to hold the comp... I am interested in competing.
Not sure if I could help to much though, unless you would need help early on the day of the comp or perhaps the night before.

People should really come down...its the perfect spot for a comp. Its located...literally right of I-95 in the middle of the city, so its very easy and quick to get to from most of the surrounding states( Its only 5.5hrs from NYC, PIT PA, and the Carrolinas in the south).......and the riding is un-surpassed. Its location is so convinient compared to most comps that are usually out in the boonies. You can literally ride from the many hotels in the city right to the comp....on your bike.....this would def be a good venue and I hope you guys could come and visit!!!!!!!!!

My idea would be to hold in in September to have more time to get the word out, and because it wont be as hot as a july or august day. THanks for the replies, and please post more info if you're willing to help out or come down to the comp. THanks,

With school and all that jazz going on I can't give you a yes or no answer. I'll certainly try. If this is really the date you will comit to, once you get stuff going you should make sure to get it up on Biketrials.com. If anything people probably only go there for that competition calendar.

I'm in for that dates as long as am recovered from surgery ( I actaully have a small tumor in my head!) by then....I'll def help with what I can...feel free to pm me with any help you need!!!!!

ONce again I highly recomend peeps to come down for this...its in a central location right off I-95 in the middle of the city....so its easy to find...there's plenty of urban in the city to ride and then obviously plenty of natural where the comp would be held.......hotels are through out the city...as Richomnd is the capitol city of VA .....most hotels in the city are close enough to the park that you can ride from the hotel to the event....we can post which hotels would be closest.......anyway should be pretty cool if it goes through!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys,

I would love to come down there, but unfortunatly I will not be riding my bike until atleast sometime in October, due to some eye surgeries. If you end up having it later then I will definatly try and go at that time, if not then maybe next year. If you hold it next year I should be able to get 4 or 5 of us together from Baltimore to go.

va tick,

Good luck with the surgery, if you haven't had it yet, if I am to late in posting this then I hope it went well.

Great new!
I just spoke with the land director at the park. He told me for an event arround the size of 35 or so with (I said) maybe 25 observers, there will be no problem at all using the land. (Although if the event was bigger arround 135 it wouldn't work). The area is in the dry river bed, and in the fall it's usually dry. Unfortunetly it's only usually dry, and if there is a hurricane or such, we will all be out of luck. He also told me that the land is on the south side of the island, and there is no direct driving access, although it's not far from some sort of parking. And if we needed some sort of transportation there could be a shuttle or something of the sort. I'm not exactly sure what he ment so if anyone here knows that would be great if you could explain how that works. Thanks and lets hope all goes well.

I could probably help out with sections. If I am truly one of the few pros coming I suggest that I help out with the expert sections and then you try to use them as a stepping stone for the pro sections. I would rather not do the pro just because it's more fun if someone else tries to challenge me then if I just set them for myself. I know what my weaknesses and strengths are and someone else wouldn't so there is a better chance I would be pushed in ways I wouldn't necessarily think of.

va_tick
08-17-2006, 11:27 AM
I may be able to help with the pro stuff, that way you dont have to ride your own sections!!!......

Also, is this going to be considered a NATS event...I imagine not, that maybe why there isnt as strong a turnout from the pro guys....wonder how to resolve that??

That will be dicated by Mikey or who ever he has/wants him helping with section design. As long as it stays dry the conditions are superb! When the rocks get wet it's like RacoonRally all over again. As far as section difficulty I hope its similar.......but not as crazy????? Any hotel in the "downtown" Richmond area will be fine....goole it!

well, I live in Chester, I like the outdoors and going for long walks....:p

I'm more of a downhill dude myself...BUT, there's are a lot of freeriding in the area, more especially in the winter months until the season opens. So if it is bike related, and not poser, many of us usually hear about it...

Since I do not ride trials, I offered to help Mathew with it. The reason is to help get the word out, and to make it a fun event. A lot of people volunteer for the races I'm in, so this is my way of returning the favor...

OR.....

It's like way cool...:werd:

Alright so I'm sure it's hidden here somewhere but I couldn't find it. What time should I show up and all that jazz?

Edit: Nevermind I found it, see you suckers there.

Ditto,
One of the best times I've had.
Jeremy, you inspired me to work a little harder, I'll be after you next year if we can make it happen again.

Kudos to Mike who started this idea and all the others who helped him.

This spot has been underused in the trials world.

i'm so mad that i missed it. we were reserved my company van to the ride and when we showed up to pick up the van, we were told that the van was on hold till the parking bill was paid. it was 3 months over due and the bill was 500+ dollars. and it had to be paid by check or money order, something that nobody had.

i also very sad to say that i had to miss it myself. i have a huge formal report to do and i just finished it (its due in 2 hours).

SK6 i had nothing to do with the title. someone else knows all about you.

We had an awesome time, weather was great (I'm a little burnt but it was great) Good turn out, thanks to everyone who made the trip. I think we had more spectators at this comp, than any other competition that I've ever been to, and the natural terrian there was unbelievable! Huge thanks to Ryan and Matt for making this thing happen!!
Glad to see you're a member on OTN now John, and thanks for helping out (and getting that duct tape)
Thanks to everyone! I'll post pics up and hopefully a video soon!

It was awesome seeing other trials riders in Richmond for the first time. I hope this becomes an annual event, and hopefully I will get to compete next time. Did anyone fall into one of those deep water holes? And more importantly, was it caught on film?
