Whats with skaters

So we got this really sweet new skate park in my town. Now I was out riding and i desided to go to it well I get there and every skater there just had some sort of extreme hate for me being in thr park.:wtf: I was just there to ride around and have fun.Some even threw rocks at me. Then sure i know it's a skate park but even outside out in the streets at night when all the skaters come out there all still fags. Why do skater just hate mt.bikers it's like when they get on a skate boarder they just hate us for some strange reason. Does anyone else have problems with skaters.

I would throw rocks at you if you rode trials in my skate park. You gotta play by the rules and the rules aren't made by you. Parks have a way things flow and riders flow them different ways and you have to respect that. Trials gets right in the way of it all.

If you were actually riding normally and not getting in everyones way than ya, thats a bit harsh. Then again they could be crazy locals.

Morley and I ride a park here once in a while that is no mtbs allowed. Its kinda funny when the couple of skaters complain because the bmx guys try to explain to them that we aren't mtbers...that we are trials riders. I hope they know what trials actually is and its not riding like a bmx rider on a mtb.

I've had a few confrontations and a board thrown at me once. Only at my local park and rarely from anyone who is a local.

I dont like to play in the park, unless all skaters are gone, but they do seem attracted to it for selling there drugs and polluting the innocent minds of youngsters.

wow i ride at mileium park all the time on my trials bike and havent had a single problem with anyone. I dont think its skaters in particular but its just selfish people. Some bmxers tell me trials is gay, some trials riders say bmxers are gay. Its not just one specific group.

Out here in Boston there are a lot of skaters and I am usually the minority out there. I make sure I know my place when I come into there territory and I make sure things go smoothly. You just can't come into to there house and expect them to roll out the carpet. You need to earn your spot and after a while, they'll be cool with you. I am cool with them now, I do remember the looks and the shit talk in the past...lolJust make sure your not in there way and you'll be good to go. That's the one thing I hate, when someone gets in my way and screws up my line.
I'm not down with the booters, there the ones who get in my way all the time. The boarders are cool, they lift up there board the same way we pick up our bikes..go to respect that!

i hate skateboarders...they are fuckin emo fags.
i have had many a tussle with them (on and off parks) and usually for no apparent reason. like i have turned up to a park before with my mates and 2 or 3 skaters will decide its a good idea to pick on the bikers...and by bikers i mean me. i seem to attract trouble, (well i used to, not so much any more)...even before i touched the concrete of a park.
since i started trials i havent had any trouble as everyone stops to look at me bouncing away on my back wheel, but i have had a few comments by the newer park riders, but they are soon stopped by the guys i used to hang with.
the best advice i could give about riding at a skate park is when its not your go, stand clear, but when it is your go and someone wont move, make them move...you have to stand up for yourself a little bit otherwise they will always walk over you.

There wouldnt be "skate" parks if skateboarding wasnt invented or as popular... Not saying that they OWN it or have the right to be assholes about it but the parks are built for skating so only ride there if you aren't going to get in anyones way... which means you gotta be a decent rider...

so are snowboarders not allowed on ski hills? Skatepark is just a name, and bmxers are just as much outcasts as trials riders, but if no bmxers rode in parks than we wouldnt have park riding. When nate wessle builds skate parks he still calls them skateparks. I woldnt care if someone came riding in a trials park on a unicycle or something, as long as they dont cut off your lines and crash into you.

2 go when you are sure you wont run into somone or get in the way
3 only ride park if you can ride it with some smoothness (as in not a hack)
4 ride in groups if you have some trouble with the skaters
5 be outgoing to them no matter what, joke around.. do whatever just dont come out to be a jerk.
6 Never bring dirt or crap in on your tires
7 If they are assholes and the above points dont work go ride trials somewhere else.. besides park trials riding is rather limited .. unless your phil pheeny (hehe).

hope that helps.. i havent had a problem yet with any skaters. Just remember that skating and biking isn't all that different the sports are to achieve more skill and both require a lot of hard work, if you can both understand that then there shouldn't be a problem.

the skate park is their terf not ours i know we all should use it equally but mtn bikes can go So many more places than skate boards. The park is pretty much the best place they have. Most are willing to be dicks to protect it as they see us as a threat to their park. If you give them some authority you will get respect and wont get trouble.

Throwing rocks onto the skatepark will just get you a bunch of angry skate boarders willing to bash your head in with their board. See it as them putting broken glass all over your trails. For those of you who dont like taking the peaceful way through all this just ride in large groups. They cant MAKE all of you leave.

Damn man, I have had only good experiences with all the skaters ive seen. Most have wanted to try my bike, so we swap board for bike for a few minutes, its good fun.

i agree with keeping with the flow in the park to keep people happy, but sometimes that doesnt work, because people do go out looking for trouble, there is nothing we can do about it.
i think that i have had a rather bitter experience with skateboarders as when i was living in Melbourne my local park was full of skaters who liked to start fights, and were known in the area for it...so eventually it was a bikers vs skaters war, but there were ALOT more bikers who rode the knox bowl back then and so the skaters soon shut up and just got along with us, even if i turned up there by myself n there was a dozen skaters they wouldnt say a word...
just because its a skate park doesnt mean it belongs to them as far as im concerned...one of my local skate parks is better for small trials practise than it is for anything else, which is good because most peple will sit and watch as you hop up and down a 2 foot ledge...but that being said, its mostly a one off, there wont be to many parks so crappy designed that ts good for trials only.

Unfortunately rials riders fall into the category of kids on scooters, mountain boards, rollerblades and any other silly form of riding....and none are welcome on the skate park...If you go to any large park you will probably be seriously in the way- unless you understand the rules of the park you will get shunned...I've seen rollerbladers get straight up knocked out by some pegs to their bodies by bmxers. I wouldn't touch a park with my trials bike...or a mountain bike...unless there was no one there; when there are shredders just stay away.

I ride frequently at Rays MTB in Cleveland, the mountain bikers there have alot of problems with the BMX riders, there are quite a few parallels between what this thread is discussing and the problems at the park. There is a "no session" rule in the park to keep people from smashing into one another, the BMXers ignore this rule, park there asses on the top of boxes and get pissy when you almost hit them. In a mountain bike park where big bikes have the right of way these kids just don't care about anything or anyone but themselves. Funny thing is the park attracts every discipline of rider from D.H. to X.C. and trials is still shit on by most mountain bikers.

A local city had a big problem with skaters damaging property so they built a nice wood and skatelite skate park to give the kids a place to ride. Within 8 months the park was completely destroyed. Theft, vandalism, graffitie, arson, not to mention fighting, and drug use. Park closed, skaters get fined if they so much as look like there having fun. I'm not anti skating or anti BMX, I'm anti asshole.

I usually get more trouble from BMX'ers than skaters. Around here, the skaters don't care if you're on a MTB or BMX, you're still just riding a bike, and they seem cool with that. It's the BMX'ers that get all pissy and say "go back to the mountains".

Point them in the direction of the nearest bmx track. Remind them of what bmx stands for. They like that one. Only one dude around here who rides bmx hates all the mtb crew. The rest get along fine with those that know the rules.

Morley has a pretty good story aboots him. All the trails in Vic are mtb built. So when the bmx crew rides them they are trespassing. Anyways no one cares but one day when the mtb hater was on them he was casing some and the bmx dudes told him to quit riding them if he couldn't jump them and not wreck them. Theres respect between bmx and mtb here. It will never be there with skaters so you just deal with it.

Rush, givin' my current situation orderd by the courts the only place I am allowed to go to for my "leisure time" is that skatepark. I am locked up 7 days a week, living in a house with over 100 other convicts, just out of prison/jail. I am only allowed to leave for work and leisure.
Now, I want "my time" away from all the racisim, hate, bullshit, and corrupt people I am forced to live with. I could give two shits about what anyone does/says/acts towards me, I am a pretty laid back, easy going guy. I could care less if the X games skaters were there. I would still ride, becuse it is a public area, and god willing I am going to enjoy myself, and gain some sanity that I have left, let alone freedom that I am still allowed.. and to do somthing that I am passionate about (riding my bikes, least they allow me to even do that)
I dont get in the way too much, and I wait till its my turn. I understand respect, and will give people respect. If a skater/fruit booter/ BMX, whoever disrespects me; than I will not show respect. If you have ever spent time locked up, and I'm willing to bet not many if any of you havent, respect between convicts is way more than what it is towards people on the street. People get hurt for saying/acting/ even looking at another person the wrong way. And what a lot of them dont understand, is that if one does attempt anything stupid, I will retaliate, and that is somthing that I dont enjoy doing, but I will if I feel needs to be done.

Exactly, there is no reason for a trials rider to ever step foot on a skate park...unless it is completely empty and you live literally where there aren't even curbs.

I think it depends a lot on how you are riding. If you ride more street style with a couple of trials moves thrown in its not a big deal - as long as you don't fuck with the flow. Sitting in the middle of a bowl practicing track stands is a whole different thing.

unfortunately for most american trials riders it is sitting in the bowl track standing. Or trying to pedal gap some boxes.

a black guy beating off to jerry springer.. in the commons.. in jail..

jail isnt like most people think.. oh the stories.. reporting to the kitchen to fix breakfast and seeing two black guys getting it on in there..

maybe dropping the soap meant something 10 years ago tho.. who knows..


although, if you end up there, you really have to ask yourself wtf are you doing with your life! even if you arnt guilty of the crime (very very common, in the newspaper the other day, some mexican got exicuted because a cop had it out for him)

the thing is, people who end up in jail, it may not be for a crime they committed.. but odds are they deserved to be there for some of the things they did and got away with..

Theres a couple of really good prison doco's on the Discovery chanel over here... Its a whole different world in there!! In the big nasty prisons they have to keep snitches, pedophiles and rapists in a seperate section... for obvious reasons.

I kinda wish they just kept the snitches in a seperated area and let the pedos/rapists get what they deserve. Meh...

But yeah skateparks........ EXTREEEEME!!!!!
