so i have a really thick single speed cog and the derailleur is what keeps my chain on, not trying to get a single speed tensioner at this time. has anyone tried running this combo?

Ok I went through this same problem. I have a mixed cassette. With a 12th king cog and an 18th surly cog, and a few random 9spd coogs. I found the KMC Kool chains skip because of the oversized plates. The sram chains worked ok, but they didn't last as long. The best chain I found on new and old cogs was the KMC X8.93 Chain. It only cost me 15bux at mec and it's been gangbusters.
My KMC 810 works with an 8 speed, but if you have a different model it might be too wide

Phil,
I was running a BMX chain on the Vinco with a derailer. I just took apart the pulleys in the derailer, bought two longer bolts (the ones that go through the pulleys) for the derailler and four small washers that fit on the bolts. I then reassembled adding a washer on either side of the pulleys to space out the cage and just cut off the excess bolt sticking out so it doesn't catch a spoke and you're golden.

^^ space out the cage. That's what I've done a couple of times. No probs.
