hey all,

In a few days I'm going to have to decide which length of the new 2006 control to get, 1065 or 1085.

I actually want the new pure but they may not be available in Oz due to availability so 2nd choice is the control.

Im 5'7" and riding a 04 Zoo Pitbull which measures 1050 with my no name forks, I'm running a 115mm stem. I do ride as many comps as I can, prefer natural than street but ride both all the time.

The new control is 375mm chainstays, +10mm BB rise, 72 deg HA.

The new Pure is based on the old 04 control I believe, 385mm chainstays, +20 BB rise and 1075 wheelbase.

Cheers.

I'm 5'7 and it was recommended to me that I stick somewhere around 1065. I ride street and nat.

Personal preference, of course.

it all depends on what you want to use it for. if you are going to stick with straight trials move'n such then get the 1085. if you are going to do more street trials then get the 1065.

im 6'3" and i use the 1065, feels fine to me.

Which year is yours because the new controls are lower BB and will feel longer, higher the BB the shorter it will feel.

Anyone know what the effect of the shorter chainstays will be? I assume better on the backwheel, easier to lift the front, any negatives?

I have tried a 1085 04/05 Control which felt ok, but I wasn't thinking of buying one back then.

Go for the 1065.

I ride an 05 Control 1085 and really like it, but sometimes wish the wheelbase was a little shorter so it felt more like my jump bike. It will also feel less weird after coming off such a short bike.

My $0.02

I'm not sure what the Mitbulls chain stays are, but when I changed briefly from my old Pure to the Macbeths Pitbull (shorter stays than the pure), it was much easier to gap I found, but also felt like it was going to loop-out a heap easier (as in fall off the back). Supposedly shorter stays are easier to sidehop, but I can't sidehop so you'll have to wait for an expert opinion about that one.

As for the length I think you'd do well on the longer one, you just seemed rather cramped on the Mitbull.

I have had both the 1065 and 1085 control (05) and I MUCH prefered the shorter one!!

The longer one felt like a right barge, I kept on hitting the wheels on stuff when pivoting around on rocks, I just didnt get used to the fact the wheels were in a different place than normal. The bike as a whole felt a lot heavier and slower to move around (all same components)

I am now on an ashton which has the same cockpit length as a long control, but a shorterwheelbase than the short control, its a match made in heaven for me!!!

so many differing opinions. if i were you i would get the 1065. Did you try (to the extent that you can) damo's Control??

when i got onto my current frame it felt easier sidehop (from rear).. everything pretty much. Gaps weren't really affected, i never really could gap anyway

Oh and the Mitbull has 384.9mm custom chainstays

So does the KennyB have longer or shorter stays than a Mitbull?? (btw I thought they were 384.72mm)

Thanks for all the reply's guys

Garth, the Mitbull has 385mm stays, maybe beaten a bit shorter from years of abuse by Mitch.

Mitch, Damo rides a HiFi not a control, completely different bike. I did have a go anyway but he has is brakes setup the wrong way round and I'm sticking my middle finger up to the high BB revolution anyway.

The KennyB has 380mm chainstays and 1080 wheelbase according to Koxx, I had a go of Mitch's and it was a little long, the huge stem didn't help.

If I can't get a pure I think I'll go for the short control with a decent length stem. It will still be longer than the Mitbull and I quiet like running the long stem, its good for getting your weight over the front axle for moves to front wheel etc.

damn! I had a quick go of the Mitbull in thongs today when I saw JD.. that long stem is amazing.. I could frontwheel hop for ages!! It was pretty much the same to hop on the front wheel as it was on the rear- ie great :)

Control here we come

I never come to this part of OTN anymore, so I'm coming in very late on this discussion but I'll add my experience to the barrel.

Go short.

I think it feels so much nicer to have the bike completely underneath you, not only riding natural, but street as well. I would never change my bike, unless it snapped in half (surprisingly it hasn't yet?), and I feel it doesn't hold me back at all in the UCI stakes, except for hooks. That move alone is almost enough to make me buy a new bike, but I figure I wouldn't be able to do it with a 10" high bottom bracket, let alone 10mm.

Did I even make a point? Whatever.

I will be keeping it for a few weeks after I get the new one just in case i don't like it, then I guess it will be up for sale.

i might be interested in the mitbull, i am concerned about the length though. i am around 6ft. it has got to be better than the onza(1010mm), i keep hitting my knees on the headset.

Yes 40mm better :bigthumb:

You're welcome to have a ride on it next time I see you Pete.
