We kicked this idea around a little bit earlier this year... A national group ride. Could be a couple days, up to a week. Location? Time?

Colorado the week before nationals in Snow Mass? I just say that because I'm planning to be there anyways.

That's pretty cool, or we could have a U.S based bike trial manufacture throw it and it could be called......................BRISA DAY'S 06....:barf:........no

but for real that would be cool to get something going like a koxx days

events....get some Hans, Jeff.L, maybe some leech, Lance.T, etc,etc.

MikeTheBike

Hans, Jeff.L, maybe some leech, Lance.T = monies

I don't mean to trod all over your idea but you've got to be realistic. KoxxDays gets the big attendence for two reasons:

1. Top World riders
2. Europe

We can't get more than 30 riders to come to a competition. Do you really think you can get riders from all over the US (or NA) to pay the big bucks for a flight to CO or wherever just for the hell of it? Find a big reason for people to meet and you might have something.

This isn't meant to be an imitation of Koxx days, it's meant to be an imitation of Nopogo days. The major difference between them is that there is no competition.
A group ride has major advantages over a competition.
A lot of riders in the US don't ride to compete, they ride to have fun and to get better. In my limited experience, one learns a lot more and has a lot more fun at group rides than at competitions. There is greater opportunity for more experienced riders to teach, none of the stress of a competition, no entry fee, no license fee, no registration to deal with... you just show up and ride.

If thirty people from around the country came, that would be a great turnout!

I've said it before and I will say it again.

Buffalo creek campground. Its a sweet spot south west of Denver. Unlimited natural riding, good free camping not too hot, beautiful area. Could ride CU campus or any number of other areas around there as well.

I think this is a great idea. but we need to firm up a date soon to make it happen.

I got ya.......massive group ride would be great for the sport....even possibly having some from over sea's come....Vincent came to Colorado once...correct......was this for money or competition? Also, if we need something special for these "big name" riders to take time out to show up.....I'll submerge myself for seven day's under water and than on the seventh day I'll try to hold by breath for 9min while jerking off!!!!!! That aside I dont see why this idea is un-reasonable provided its pre-planned properly dates,etc........

I'd possibly be interested. I'd really like to head out to CO this summer anyhow and could easily throw in some trials for a day or two ;). I definitely need LOTS of advanced notice though, as it takes a lot of prep work for me to be able to leave work during the busy season.

Anyhow, keep us updated ;)

what would be the attraction for the euros? They need some sort of cash dollars sidecar'd with promotional opportunity. I know Vince was coming out in the past because that was on the table but now with no money and only promotional opps, I don't think he would bother.....unless any of you have a smokin' sister you could hook him up with.....F that, take him to LG. It'd be like dead fish in a barrel.

Alright, well, more power to you. I didn't mean to discourage anyone, only to encourage realistic thinking and planning. I hope it is a success.

As for top riders, you might consider that one of the best BIU riders from Japan is living in CA right now: Masashi. I'd bet more than a few riders from all around the US could learn a thing or two from him. Contact Zak Maeda to reach Masashi.

yeah, I think if its after too many people will be gearing up for a new semester /the fall work schedule. Also, I think there is a gunnison comp around then....

As far as place.... Fires are gonna be prohibited all up and down the front range so that seems kinda like a moot point. The distance from the airport is not a huge deal unless there are a ton of people(kets be realistic...) coming since we could easily have a carpool from denver (I would gladly drive my parents van which can haul at least 5 bikes and people). So it seems to me the biggest issue here is lack of hotels.

Anyone have any other ideas for spots? Maybe somewhere in Co.Springs?

I agree, co springs has lotsa spots to ride but the worst cops, so no urban would be able to be ridden if there are like 50 people. Plus andrew has bad mouthed this place so much that everyone thinks its a shithole. Buff creek or horsetooth has the most riding I think, or boulder canyon+campus may be the best way to go.

MIKE1968

I looked on a map, yes it does seem further into the wilderness of CO than Buffalo Creek. However, I am assuming there are hotels and other modern conveniences. Has anyone from this list ever been there?....is there plenty of stuff to ride on the grounds???...or next to? The national and all the other ameneties/factors might out weigh the distance from metropolis airport.

I guess another question is what kind of riding do we want to be doing (urban/natty)? The nice thing about bufalo creek is that we KNOW there is good natural there as well as good urban in denver and boulder (both about an hour and a half from the campsite. We could also do a night in denver (rent a couple of rooms/camp out at andys place) one of the days and then carpool down to buffalo creek. Would have to have some definite interest for that though.... I would be willing to front money for hotel rooms in denver if others pay me back etc....

its also not like its that far from buffalo creek to towns big enough to have motels. I seem to remember a pretty decent sized motel no more than 20 miles from the riding spot.

I think it should be weekend of snow mass. How far is Snowmass from denver? Is it worthwhile? Could you imagine over 40 riders showing up at a norba event? That would be pretty damn funny...

What's the closest city to Snowmass and how far away is it? We could have urban riding on Friday and Saturday, and then head up to Snowmass for the event on Sunday. Or, if the competition is on Saturday, then we could ride Urban on Sunday and Monday.

snomass = 3? 4 hours?

I've never ridden much in terms of aspen/snowmass/keystone/ski resort urban...a little in keystone though, many years ago- kevin would be better at accessing the situation?

TTownJon
05-18-2006, 01:02 AM
Snow mass is easily 4 hours. which day is the competition? saturday seems likely - we could hit up the front range on sunday and monday or something? seems like a bit too much traveling and too little riding to me. The distances between buff creek and snowmass make it kindof difficult to arrange both... its really one or the other...

The way I see it there are two viable options:

1. The weekend before snowmass (August 4-6) at buffalo creek/golden/boulder/denver

2. The weekend of snowmass (August 11-13) @ aspen/snowmass. There is doubtless good natural to be found there, but we don't really know where it is... as far as urban... who knows?

lucky13
05-18-2006, 02:57 AM
Isn't that the same difference as when we go to Canada?

3-4hrs is acceptable in comparison to a whole week in Colorado.

If we are going to gather everyone, it really should be combined and non conflicting.

I'm thinking that flying in and renting a van is the ticket...

As soon as we are solid on this I'm all over my two job scedule for some ride time and hit up ORBITZ!

Oh no not this again... Im pretty sure these are the national championships for the US. Last year Christiano came to the nationals and because Jeremy hurt himself he technically won but since he isn't an American citizen he couldn't be our national champion and they wouldn't let him on the podium. So yes, Norba will take your money and let you ride the sections, BUT you can't win. Other than that, Paul and I are probably going to be in CO for a couple weeks before snowmass/OTN days and wont have anything to do. And I like to ride a lot, everyday if other people are up to it.

do we know which day the trials comp in snowmass is yet?

Okay, since NORBA isn't posting the actual date of the trials comp on its website (or whether there will even be a trials comp) I would suggest that we have it the weekend before (August 4-6) at Buffalo Creek campgrond on the front range. If this is acceptable to every one I am willing to step in and do all the planning for this date.

If anyone (Zach Maeda perhaps?) has more info regarding the snowmass national they should let me know and we can change this thing accordingly.

Perhaps a yes or no poll type thing, yes if you are pretty sure you are planning to come at the moment for August 4-6, no if you cant come that date but would come if it was at a better date for you and dont vote if you woudnt come no matter what
