Ex: 1/100,000

??

What do you guys think?

You mean of people who ride trials, who ride trials in your country, ride trials in the world, or just out of anybody?

i would think it also depends on how long someone has been riding for...
i dont think i am a very good trials rider but i have only had my trials bike for 3 months now (i rode my norco 125 for 1 month before i got my trials bike) but in comparison to alot of other riders who have been riding for the same time as me i personally rate myself quite high (that doesnt mean i am, but thats my opinion) as i ride alot...i work nights so i get alot of daylight time to practice which is what probably makes the difference.
so i think you need to be more specific with your question as there are to many variables.

^^^ LOL!!!

Pretty dumb question really. Its a matter of opinion not a matter of fact, so kinda pointless.

It would be better to ask how many people ride trials around the world?

trials = being able to do unique trials stuff that people would be like "heh what are you doing? that's really cool!"

50 guys in NZ? out of just over 4 million people.

good at trials = competing at expert level or higher and not making an ass of themselves?
10-12 in NZ you think mike? 10/4000000 or 1/400,000

Yeah, but "good at trials" does not necessarily mean you have to compete, just happens that all the best riders here do.

Oh,.. I missunderstood the question. Sorry Trev, Yea,.. so a ratio?

I don't know.

yeah, i figured i would have been introduced to all the good riders, comp or not, unless there were some real streetcore riders. what happened to that ginger-haired guy on the monty that rode at the 2002 indoors and blitzed that last section bmx stylee without a brake?

i still want to ride with that dude :dunno:

People in Canada :32 million. "Good" riders: less than 30 people. So you would think, there is less than one in a million chance to be a good rider. However, this is wrong.

There are less than 3000 people in canada who have trials bikes. Out of the 3000 people, less than 300 actually train to be "good", so the chance of being good is actually closer to 1:10.

When you factor in that people who do trials are naturally predisposed to being good at it (self selection bias), this number is probably closer to 1:100 or a little less, which is closer to what you would expect to see in other sports.

Depends what level you call people "good" at.

Trevor B
James B
John Webster
Ryan Leech

They're the only ones with significant comp records that I can think of.

In Canada?

RT Wolf

Yea. JK's calculations were for canuckland and hot girl avatar's question was for canuckland.

The reason I'm not expanding on the list further is because I'm not that familiar with the comp scene and I'm not 100% sure on other people about whether they are from canuckland or america.

i think leech should be number 1 on that list.

you can't base how good a rider is with just comp results. although there is no doubt that they are at the top of the list.

Trevor bodogh has a mass bad/ no comp recordddddd(he said it right now...he is right beside me)..Although he is one of the top in canada. Ryan leech has no comp record because he can't ride comps.

fizzmahon

i think leech should be number 1 on that list.

Definetly not. IMHO:

1: Bodogh
2: James
3: Leech
4: Webster

Webster would have ranked higher a couple years ago. W.e. thats what i think./

RT Wolf

i think leech should be number 1 on that list.

I think my list was in no particular order. Let's see if we could list all the good trials riders in Canada, whether they do well in comps or not. I doubt that we can come up with 30 riders who are great at comps alone, so let's add the rest in, too.

http://www.biketrials.ca/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,0/page,viewtopic/t,481/postdays,0/postorder,asc/start,0/sid,77a42868b757a2d4c729e508ccc13586/
That might help, it lists some fo the best riders.

what about dylan korba and dave hurr. those guys are amazing.

and leech did compete in comps.i specifically remember segment in contact (the one in london) where they were shoing the comp fottage, and ryan leech was in it. i'm almost positive he used to travel around all the time when he was younger attending comps. just because he doesn't go to them now, doesn't mean he cant.
