If you live in a city where there are a few bicycle messenger companies, I would go talk to a courier. But be carful what you say to these people. Messengers tend to have the feeling like they own the planet.
If you do manage to get on there good side, then your in for some smoking road bike deals.
I was a messneger for a number of years, and went through road bikes on a monthly basis. It may be hard to find one that actually has brakes and 9 speed shirmano equipped. Since hard core messengers all use fixed gears, and no brakes..... now I wanna go get on my old Bianchi.

some of them...yes they do. But don't be careful about what you say, fuck that shit.

Here's another idea, check out the dumpsters behind high end shops. They invariably have customers who drop off old bikes to be repaired and never pick them back up. If you're diligent, you'll find something soon. I had a friend in Providence who found an average of about three bikes a week. He started a little side business of stripping them down, priming the frames and then building them with found parts. Sold each bike for a little over $100.

The bikes are out there, and they're free, you just have to work a little for it. And fuck messengers with attitude (or anyone else for that matter.)

I concure with you there smudge. Since, I've stopped couriourin', I've had some shitty run in's with some punk ass wise messnegers that think their tough shit. Ill be riding downtown working on my trials game, and hear one of them say somthing like "You think your soooo cool...." bullshit.
I've smashed one for a sly ass comment, and another yelled some other bull-shit that pissed me off.... must suck to come out to your bike after dropping off some blue prints, and all your spokes are cut. Makes delivering a weee bit hard.
I did that shit for too many years to be disrespected by some rookie.

On a better note... IM GOIN' DUMPSTER DIVIN' TONIGHT!
Thats a good idea, I never thought about checking bike shop dumpsters. I've found some pretty sweet shit in dumpsters before.

:bowrofl:

dumpsters are teh bomb, you'll look like a hobo, but when you find that 1978 raleigh super course in the trash, it will be worth it.

Man this thread seriously makes dumpster diving for bike stuff sound so sweet. I know what I'm doing soon.
