They're not like the Hot S, they ARE the Hot S. And yeh the compound is hard and plasticky so lasts ages but doesn't stick to too much on it's way.

Nice bike! I have the same cranks. I really like that bash ring. What brand/model is it and where can I get one?

the tires are great on urban at low pressure but at the beach on the logs and rock the are very slippy.but at 42us for the pair i cant grumble.
the bash ring is called the the granny god bye black spire. probaly get it at webcyclery,or your lbs.ive had this surly frok for a while now an i like the rake it has, i prefer it to the kniven

As I was warned, I will warn you. Watch that Surly fork. Everyone I've known of has broken right above the disc mount. She'll make all kinds of fun noises before she goes.

The average lifetime I've experienced (and heard) was in the range of 6 months.

Still a very nice looking bike!
