So my right XTR lever is on its way out as the pin that holds the lever is sort of busted and starts to pop out sometimes requiring a gentle shove back. I found the ultimate levers at ebay for 140 which is not too bad. So the question to the people who tried both levers, what's your take on this?

you get what u pay for. Ultimates are more kizash, but they are the best lever ever. infinate adjustment, light and the black ops ones look crazy. XTR is shimano, so they're good but there is always something better.

I heard that you can't get replacement avid ultimate lever blades if you smash them. If that's no problem, well, I guess that's no problem. I think it was brettM who found that out the hard way.

I don't know if that's true or not. You can still get replacement blades for the OLD ultimate levers (before v-brakes). It might be worth a call to Avid to find out the story.

Each brake lever handle is designed with a Bend Zone. This feature is designed to have the handle absorb and bend in a crash instead of transferring the shock to the body (which is more expensive and difficult to replace). A bent handle can be carefully bent back into position in order to complete a ride (better than having to walk home because you don't have a brake lever). All bent handles should be replaced immediately.

So then one would think that one can aquire new lever blades.

when they replied to Brett they didn't replace the lever blades. Maybe it has changed.... only contacting SRAM will tell

Easily bendable levers with no replacement for $140 brakes would sound like a totally winning combination.

http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Brake_Lever/product_78263.shtml I guess I will say no to Utltimates as judging from MikeTheBike's comments and this I don't want 140 sloppy levers. The whole reason why I wanted these was for the ball bearing instead of the bushing to provide a rock solid feel w/o slop

If you can Ebay an old set then you'll be fine. Just don't pay a bunch of money for new ones. They're apparently crap now.
