Hi, just to intoduce myself, I'm Sam and I live in Wendover, in Buckinghamshire. I ride a T-pro pretty crap spec but I'm working on it.

Anyway onto the point of this topic, Are BB7's really as good as, say, a hope mono or trials?

I just can't seem to grasp that a cable brake could be more powerful than a hydro...coming from my history of promax and £5 shimano jobbies. :p

avid bb7s are probably the most reliable, powerful brake out there. for real. i would guess that about 80% of the riders i know use them, and love them. the only brake more powerful in my experience is the hope/try-all trials brake, however its track record for reliability isnt as impressive as the avid. that said, i wont use anything but either of the two. the try-all is the best imo, but i havent had any problems.

The Avid disks are mint, there alot easier to maintain that a hope mono or trials, just get a decent cable and a decent lever and your sorted.

I rate a Nokon cable and a XTR lever.

P.S are you Rich4130's mate, becuase if i remember rightley i brought a m.a.d frame what was yours of him.

elan seems to know what he's talking about. although i've never seen or used the try-all brake, the 8" avid locks perfectly for me under any situation and it's needed no maintenance except for a change of pads since i've got it.

i think all you'll hear from now is 'get the bb7' or 'get the try-all', so whatever fits eh.
