Ok, so not too long after steven's chain snapped causing an accident :ugh:, my snapped popping a wheelie.

I am looking for a good replacement chain (shamano 105 rear derail) to replace, and this weekend is going to be so nice too!!

well that and i could not find any link to general bike info, like what chain, ect.. on this mototcycle forum i used to goto, they had a bunch of info (sugg tires, places to buy, how to fix things, ect) on this seperate page..

maybe im just missing it..

but anyways, im looking for a pretty good chain that wont break the bank.

Thanks
-derek

Yep, I have had two KMC K810's in a row, the first one for a year with one snap last week and hence I replaced it for a new one.

my 810 lasted me nearly two years. i changed it in the end because i changed cogs and it was probably way too stretched. then i couldn't find an 810, got an sram chain and shattered it in a month.

I was running that chain, but it was the masterlink that broke, and the rest of the chain seems to be ok, besides the links around the POE (point of explosion)

Dont use the master link, if you need to take off your chain buy another one.
only 15$ au.

I was just about to ask about this. I am in need of a chain replacement. Will the KMC work on all types of cogs. I have a scram chain now.

ok, I have a deraileur (sram 105), so i need i guess a 3/32 chain? anyways, i called the lbs, and they said a sram pc-58 for 25$

duno, what i had was a sram pc-48, and it seemed pretty old when i got it.....

i was wanting like ~20$, seems like they are overpriced a bit.. but i could call around.. think i will be happy with a sram pc-58?

the sran pc-69 has alot better reviews (but only 2 of them)

what do you think?

You can just throw a couple of standard washers into your mech cage to widen it a little so the larger chain won't rub. I snapped a couple of SRAM's within the first week of owning them, only had one KMC snap on me in 3 years of using them.

kmc 510hx. ALOT stronger than the kmc 810, about the same weight but it doesnt have the fancy K bull shit.

are u running a full cassete? if so then i guess the sram is fine. But i would suggest u go single speed and run a kmc kool (710) or the 810 like so many people suggested.

I've used pc-48's, just make sure not to use the powerlink. I've only snapped a couple, and that was after some chainswap shenanigans (sp?) that would make you cringe.

yeah, he runs a full cassette, so he had to get something small enough to fit:ugh:

Not according to their website....:dunno:

edit: I just looked at my chain, and there is a twisted section (probably from folding my chainring 90 degrees last night while riding). So i just ordered a 810. we'll see how it works...

the K810 works fine with 8 speed cassettes

Any chain with mushroomed pins will almost always be "stronger" then a chain with normal pin insertion methods.

I've used shimano dura ace 9spd chains forever with nothing but good things to say. the KMC 810 is also a great chain. Rohloff chains are VERY nice, although I've never used one.

rohloff are the bomb, not worth the money...kmc kool is hwere its at- just takes a beating; mine has gone through a dozen or so chain breakings and adding links/taking htem away- its made from 2 different ones (one is black inside, the other silver), has been on probalby 4 different cog /chainring combinations and has never made a peep.

rohloffs will not last as long and are a bit more finicky, but much lighter and just as strong.

My 2 year old kool running on 16-24 died last night.

Get a kool.

oh Andy you reminded me - I have a 9sp rohloff, cut for 32/16 on a mtb. Used for less than two weeks because my ring/sprocket were 8sp. No wear, measures as new with park chain checker. Anyone want it? It costs $0 + postage (au only)

Just to be on-topic.

So far the Shadow Conspiracy 1/2 link seems pretty nice but is a bit heavy. But in no way will it make it through your der. Just put on the KMC and be done with it. It will clear everything and hold up great.
