So I'm trying to get an idea of where we might want to hold some comps this year around New England/New York. I think the Lincoln Woods comp went well last year and the park was fairly easy to work with so I think we'll do another one there. RITC, the mototrials club in RI, has access to 900 acres in Exeter, RI, so I'm going to try and work with them to use that. Would there be any interest in doing a combined event with the moto guys? I'm also looking for suggestions for other locations. Keep in mind that we'll need to have enough parking, varied enough terrain to allow beginner-pro sections, and at least somewhat friendly owners.
Any locations you liked from years past?
Any thoughts on Gloucester MA, Hamonasset CT, Purgatory Chasms MA, or Yonkers NY?

Hammonasset is a fun place. I went to Wilk's last comp there and it rocked. I definitely vote for there for at least one!

Sounds great. We could even join up all these events and make a series, like with prizes for winners at the end of the year and everything.

Yonkers, NY, eh?
I've been thinking of holding a comp at Sprain Ridge Park for years now...
Plenty of parking, bathrooms, picnic areas, and the Westchester County parks dept could be very open to the idea. You could find all the natural stuff you could ever want within a few hundred yards of the parking lot, and there are also lots of old tables and stumps that could be moved into play.

Another option would be Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill, NY. You can take the train to within a mile or so of the park, and if we hold the comp on the same June 3-4th weekend as the MTB Festival, we have the lodge, and plenty of spectators on Sunday.
There are some serious issues with the county because of a past trials related lawsuit (long story), but if you set some rules up front, (specifically - no cash prizes, and sections are CLOSED to non-competitors) I think the event would be welcome by everyone.

Hamonasset CT is really nice, but best make it in the off seaon. That place gets packed during the summer.
Pete Wilk's event was well timed: October.
Plenty of parking and facilities, too.

Lincoln Woods was great last year and from what I've seen in pics, Rockport would be absolutely ridiculous for a comp.
I certainly agree that we need more comps around the Northeast.
Would we be talking about Spring, Summer, Fall?
Fergie, I really hope you can run a comp somewhere in Westchester.

too many people in hammonasset is the perfect reason to have one in june.. i've always thought purgatory should see a comp..
stepping stones might not be bad although there isn't a ton of terrain but better than the moto spot in exeter for bikes anyway..

Would we be talking about Spring, Summer, Fall?
I'm trying to spread them out from May to October(ish). Any more thoughts on when we'd want to do Hamonasset? The other ones mentioned could be done pretty much any time. I sent an email to the RI moto guy and he hasn't gotten back to me, but it sounds like that's not a terribly popular idea anyway. I'll look into Purgatory and see how willing they are to have a comp.
Fergie, either park would be great. Let me know what I can do to help you set that up. I know a good company to use for insurance since state parks usually require that.
any news if any of these comp are going to happen???

I'd totally be up for volunteering for a trials comp in Westchester. I remember I met Dave Delucia on a Danny's Cycles (Central Ave.) road ride. Hey, Fergie PM me if their is anything I can do.
I'm up for group rides too though for now my only trials rig is a uni.

I would voulunteer as well my freind rides expert in the moto trials and he has two events in RI one in Exeter and one in North Kingstown. They are both great places to ride. He is tight with the moto guys and the people who own the land and he also is a pretty good bicycle rider. Let me know if you still want to do this thing. Ill let him know and have him talk to the owners. There is a moto national in Exeter at the beggining of August.
Peace Out!
