Hey Guys,

I live in Boston and I need to have my king rear hub completely pulled apart and relubed. Who/what local bike shop would you recommend taking my wheel to? My hub slips from time to time but i think it is just because there is too much lube in there.

Also, where can I get some triflow around here?

Cheers,
HC

Try going to Community Bikes on Berkly st and ask for Rich, he is the best old/new school mech in the city. Don't bother going to Back Bay Bikes, they'll just rip you off..been there with those guys.

Good luck with the King..

Word thanks for the heads up. I lost track of Todd when he left Ace, which is where I used to take my bike. I will probably go see him soon.

Todd is good as well, depends where you live in Boston. Newton is a hike, if you do live in Boston. I'd check out Community Bikes first and then go and check out International..they both have all the tools you need.

Good luck, I run kings as well and they can be a pain sometimes..

That guy Todd works at Nault's in Nashua, NH, or at least he did this past summer. When I saw him then he told me he got out of trials because getting away from BMX made him "soft".
I haven't touched my CK other than "taking it apart" to clean what i could and drop in some t-flo.

Yeah, got an email from Todd. He sold his trials bike and has been riding mostly bmx for the past year. But I think he could be convinced to ride bikes with bigger wheels. He is working at International in Newton now to.

Haven't done anything about my hub yet, although I really need to. Probably do something about it this weekend.

Hey Trauma where did you get the tool and how much did it cost? Let me know if you are going to be around the city anytime (i live just north of the city, Rockport is a bit of a hike).

I believe the problem with my hub is that the guy that built the wheel put grease in there instead of triflow. I got rid of the grease that i could see and put fome full synthetic 10w engine oil in there, but i think there is still too much lube around the driven and drive rings. So I would like to take the whole thing apart clean it and stick some triflow in there.

Thanks for all the responses by the way.

ya grease in a king = bad news!
without a tool......take the hub apart and saturate evrything with wd40... bush the rings with a tooth brush as good as you can and wipe it down with a cloth... I let it sit overnight to let the wd completely dry out inside (wd's nasty when it mixes with lube!)then hit it with tri-flow... this should solve your problem.... I have never taken my hub completely appart... I just do the above every 4-5 months
I got hook ups at the LBS for the tool... I cant see spending that kind of coin on a king tool unless it's a last resort

I thought about that, but I was not sure if the wd 40 would dry up... because I don't want it washing away the triflow.

Ya just whipe it down realy good inside as much as you can and let it sit for a wile.... will be fine

Did it last night... will put the triflow in tonight... and I will post the outcome when the damn snow melts and I can ride again.
