I know many of you made one of these already, but I thought I'd share.

For those of you that may be wondering...

I used 2" PVC pipe and cut and shaped it.
1/8" weather strip foam tape for cushioning
black zip ties
black spray paint made for plastic

looks nice, I should make one, I got a huge ass dent on my echo pure downtube because I don't have one and mostly I suck.

Shit, if you were afraid of one dent on yours, you'd probably puke if you saw my HiFi's downtube. I've had it for about a year now, and beat up is quite the understatement. I even managed to mis-align my dropouts from a gap to chainstay move. Still works as good as the day I bought it.

i made one of those and used it the first week or so that i got my bike...took it off after that tho. It looked stupid and its really just a bike

what about the rest of the tube? dont u wanna protect it?

I am not thrilled about how it looks either, but it's better than replacing a whole frame. My wife would shoot me!

Yeah, I think I would puke if I did something like that to my bike. heh heh

As far as protecting the rest of the bottom tube... when I made this I was only thinking about where I tend to hit the bottom tube. I was thinking that the wheel would prevent something from hitting the tube up any higher.

I guess I should make a longer one. Thanks.

I really like the look of that. Looks very professional. I have something simialar to that but thinner. Nice work.

Thanks man. I actually just started making another one that looks the same, but it is longer and will protect the whole down tube.

After I do this hopefully I will take a few more chances while riding. Before making this I was always worried about messing up my frame.

For mine, I just wrapped some strips of aluminum (1/8" by 1/2" by 1') with electrical tape. three of those around the down tube will block anything.

Do U mind sending one to me?

Thanks - If I had the proper tools, I could pop these things out real quick. I've been doing it by hand so far. (Hack saw and sand paper) It's a little time comsuming.

Ya really think people would buy these things? Maybe I'll make a few and bring em' to Motorama to see what people think.

I just finished my second one for the whole down tube. I'll post a pic in a little while.

Does anyone think I should make them skinnier to save on weight? Just curious if you think a skinnier would offer the same protection?

As it is what does it weigh? I'm thinking no more than like 80 grams. That's really not that much. For people that are that much of a weigh weenie, they probably wouldn't use them at all.

It kinda seems like people want to dent their downtube. I say this because I rarely see people with protection on their frame. Your product looks very nice and it wouldn't hurt to bring them to the comp. I like the drilled hole look, very sexy.

Dang... the holes in that look really nice! How do have that attached to the frame?

I'm thinking that if I get a dremel tool I could cut out some really cool designs.

Well, here's the new one. I may experiment with some other designs since it costs nearly nothing to make these things.

Have one similar to yours, except instead of zip ties, I used adhesive velcro on the dt and guard..actually i dont really need the velcro as the pvc tubing locks itself in place. My new frame will have an extra gussett on the dt/bb shell, so making a dt guard to fit will be a bit tricky.
