alrighty then. i've never ridden a mod before in my life and now i want one but i know nothing.:dunno:
i want to have a custom steel frame built up by local guy and need to know what the haps is as far as geo? what kind of wheelbase does a 6 ft rider use? (im on 1090 stock) any tidbits i should be aware of or maybe try? any sort of design input or frame ideas would be helpful? anything you can think of that i cant really.
and to the peps out there riding both. does it help with progression? i guess i just want to see trials from a different perspective and learn as much as possible.
im sure i forgot a million things. thanks for any help.
-peace out
i love riding mods, nothing else compares for me. I rode a short GU the other day which supposedly had a modlike feel but it didnt do it for me at all... nothing like a mod. I think mods are easier to move around so it could very possibly help you progress. ANYWAYS, I'd go for a 1035 wheelbase, similar to the Echo Team. Basically I would just base your angles and specs off of that frame. I don't know any of the angles or anything but I think that's one of the best mod frames out there (not like I have ridden that many, but anyways...)

I ride a vinco, and am planning to get a mod later in the year, funds providing.
I have spent a fair bit of time riding a frinds Zoo Python, and I love it. It's as long as hell.... We measured 1075 axle to axle, and it really flicky and fun. I think you should try to have a ride on a few before you go and get one made,

To be honest with you, to get a steel mod frame strong enough it's gonna take a few attempts at it. I used to test the Onza steel proto mod, and they got to version 8 or so before they switched attention to their stock range. Maybe an off-the-shelf model would be better?
Anyways, I'm 6'2", and I ride a Zip, which is 1045mm WB, 365mm CS, 60mm+BB. The crucial thing is that it's got the longest front end of any mod out there. IT's about 2" longer than the T-Pro I had before, with the same rear end pretty much ('cept more BB rise). Either way, the extra cockpit room has meant I virtually never hit my thighs doing ups and so on which I *always* used to on my T-Pro...
So yeah, any of the "long" bikes out now should fit fine. As a rough guide, from my experiences the Zoo Pythons typically ride like shit, but the GU longs should be fine, really.
