Finally got my ZHI built up- everything is basically brand new.
Ride it, shoulders feeling good (been doing rehab for it alot).
1 hour later, my crank is completely stripped. Brand new crank, brand new track cog.
no riding again.

I know, I'm blaming it on squats and deadlifts :wtc:
I guess a 110 pound azn quality doesn't stand up to 180 lbs of american beef :wtc:
just kind of wanted to ride the bicycle :/

Anyways for the hour or so that I got to ride, the ZHI felt great. A little short, but it is the 1060- its longer than the pitbull 1060 I had prior to this frame. Very stiff, had no problems...
was just getting used to it and doing a big gap, every time my cranks would turn and nothing would happen...I figured it was still setting in, I keep trying the gap and blamo. Turned a fixed track cog into a moving useless piece of metal on worthless cranks.

Someone in the UK raped the ISIS interface on the new cranks too.
So, that's the Echo cranks that don't appear to be all that great, the hub they released that they took off the market... Just gotta wait for more people to chance their luck with the other parts I guess ;)

Their frame and fork history hasn't exactly been shit-hot, and their old cranks used to strip pretty much anything that looked like a thread within 2 miles. Just not so keen on them, really. Some of their stuff this year looked really good, but it's just not really lived up to the amount of hype generated, "IMO".

race face lasted indefinitely. Greatest cranks ever, I had them for what 4 years?? No sign of fatigue, with 4 years of that being ground down to poo. Should've kept them...I'm sure the gentleman who bought them is happy.
1000000000x stronger than the echos, lord knows 1/3rd the weight and stiffer. Suprizing what happens when you actually put a few engineers behind a product as opposed to 20 ping pongs with computers and pictures of what a cool crank might look like.

I am not necessarily defending the echo name, but has anyone on here broken a Pure or Control or Team?

Was this a surly track cog you used?
tomacropod
01-23-2006, 05:27 PM
I'm thinking that the new plazmatic cog is the nuts - made by white industries. The early generation surly sprockets had poor chroming which would come off the threads, creating a gap and eventually stripping it out.

18-15, joel it wasn't an echo cog. I'll take a picture in a second.
I didn't get the stuff for free. This is echo, i has nothing to do with ZHI...however ZHI is making ISIS cranks :naughty:
BT contacted me and said they sell the metal insert for the crank, might have to go with that in the meantime :dunno:
guess what???
the same just happened to my cranks.
first night out with them and bye bye, no more treads on cranks.

What was this BT steel insert you were speaking of Andy?
What about the Tensiles?
I'm running new echo cnc's,..as are most of the seattle riders... so far so good.
Otherwise I'd recomend the Bonz. They have the same manufacturing process and tollorances of Raceface.
Also Ask NETTO about his burly North Shore Billets. If those go into production soon,.. mmm mmm good.

I've heard of Teams and Pures dying. What about the ES frames? Urban? etc. The older Echo Team (now called hte Lites or whatever) died too. Stock forks did too? That's what I was getting at...
RomanC
02-02-2006, 07:29 AM
This can be caused by poor machine tolerances. If the crank thread is smaller than the thread on the cog/freewheel by even a tenth of a mm, this can happen.

The older Echo do not really count as pretty anything from that era went bust. After 5lb frames were inroduced by KOXX and then others doing the same the failure rate has dropped dramatically.

my zoo isis cranks have been fab! My tryalls crapped out in 3 minutes. Poor quality control. Middleburns are great aside fron those tiny schprokets.
TIME TO DANCE VIT ZEE MONKEY!!
at first you need to make a new thread on the crank. Its diameter is less than the original and it fits the internal thread of that nice inserts. the external thread of the insert fits standart frewheel\cog
