Steel is better than some gold coated aluminum cog IMHO

Its not just Nitride coating. It is Titanium Nitride coating. Same coating they use for metal cutting tools for longevity.

Yes it is supposed to improve cog longevity. ie outlast your cranks.

Looks like I'm going to get one of those cogs.
looks fat like a bmx cog. you dont need a bash :-)

if you dont use a bash you will mostly land on your chain. My tiny weak tryall bashring fel apart months ago. Now every fucked up tap/pedal up i make goes on to the koolchain

The Echo cogs are stupid tough... I had an incident where the bash on my Tensiles that covered the 18tooth got destroyed so when setting up the new Echo cog I only had my 16tooth sized bashy to cover the 18. It's seen numerous missed taps and bails, hitting concrete and rocks, and for the longest time with just a crapass Sram 8spd chain on it. The teeth poked above the chain a bit and also above the bash and it hasn't bent at all... not so much as a deformed tooth. The generic Tryall cog that was on there before rounded out like silly putty and bent all over the place.
If Tim had Plaz make this one i'll bet this one should do just as well if not better..
