(Hans Rey for those of you who couldn't tell)
sorry for the crappy pics but I was kinda in a rush because I wanted to ride with him a bit but he didn't ride much as he had just done 30 ish moto trials sections. He was a very nice, very cool guy to meet and his skills were still pretty good. Things I learned:
Hans is better than me (given)
trashzen.com is a good site for beginner trials riders :dunno:
moto trial event have like 60+ riders usually
there are like 5 older moto trials guys going to start doing bike trials in so cal...
oh ya and kenny belay is gonna be at sea otter  im so there.

that guy cant be any good. His bikes too short, its got a seat on it and he doesnt even have any holes drilled in his rim.

Nice pics Jon. If you ever got back to So Cal much you could probably ride with Hans more often. He is always showing up once Zak calls him to our group rides. Anyhow, where was the moto comp at?

Is he riding on Kenda tires? I though he had his own Maxxis tire? :dunno:
Weird. Cool you got to hang with him though. I didn't know he was doing mototrials.

Hans borrowed a Sherco to ride around for the day and took third place in Intermediate A on what looked to be like some tough sections.
He said he was testing the kenda tires but they were "no good for rocks" and he flatted the front tire on his second move but fixed it and continued to ride for a bit more. Although he did more talking and auto graph signing than actual riding because all the moto guys wanted to talk to him.
Hans is definatly not at the top of the US trials scene, but he is still very good and much smoother than most of the riders Ive seen. He can still pull off some very big moves here and there. He never seems to be afraid to do a move 10-20 feet off the ground no matter how sketchy.
This summer hopefully Ill be in so cal long enough to do some group rides with you guys but for now Im gonna see how many SF guys I can get to go with me to the fontana events.
There's a guy from Canada named Matt Anton who rides a similar bike setup. Mass oldschool, just without the suspension fork. He's smoother and has more style than 99% of riders I have seen. He's a big guy too, over 200 easy. I wish I had video, maybe this summer.

Holy cow, Matt Anton. Haven't heard that name in years. He was amazing in 1998-99. I beat him in Expert by a couple points on the first day of the Midwest Triple Threat. We rode together that evening at Purdue and the next day he trounced the Expert class with a single digit score for the day. He was uber smooth then. I can only imagine how much smoother he must be now. Tell him I said hi, Jon.

Yeah Matt Anthon is the man and still is the man. I've always been a fan of Matt. Not only is he a super smooth rider, quick and precise, but also an UBER cool, genuinely nice guy. He is totally missed in the scene. If Matt Anthon is still around, he'd be a good influence to the new school. Matt's riding is almost distinctly unique in Ontario.
I will always remember trying to convince the Norco trials rep, whose name i will not mention, that Matt was up and coming but all he could do was criticize Matt for not being smooth. Then someone told me one year later, the NOrco rep watched in awe and took back all his words.
Come back Matt! Come back! Matty V, and Adam M, can't you hook him up? hahaha.
