Hey all,
Today as of the 15th January 2006, at about 6pm, at the Grey blocks next to the Ferris Wheel at South Bank is where and when my riding was over (for the day)
Me just meeting up with a lad named "PJ" I went for the Grey blocks at South Bank as usual...(and ofcourse i'm always cautious about people and my surroundings)
Then after 2nd attempt to the blocks, two cops on horses approach to me, one on the left, and one on the right.
Cop(did all the talking) - "Son, you shouldn't be doing that, and is dangerous, you should be riding in Skate Parks or Private Property ONLY"
Don - "ok"
Cop - "Cause I don't to waste my Taxes on paying damaged property cause of people like you. Also, that bike doesn't have a seat, it's Defected"
Don - "But...the bike comes like that"(Adamant A1)
Cop - "Doesn't matter, as the law states, no seat, not for On road, you
cannot ride it anywhere but private property such as skate parks" (that's right..private property such as skate parks :weak: )
Don - "but just look at it, if I wanted to Un-Defect it, how would i be able to install a seat on it, if it was already built like that"
Cop - "Don't you understand ENGLISH?? No seat, DEE-FECT. The Law has been out since the 1900's that you MUST have a seat at all times, and when were you born??"
Don - "uh... 88"
Cop - "That's right! 88! and the law has been around longer than you have, so you should know it by now!"
Don - (in confusion and angry)
Cop - "Don't you understand anything? DEFECT! You want me to write a ticket for you that it will be??"
Don - "uh...no...it's fine..."
Cop - "That's right...think about them Offroad buggys, why don't you think they're on road? because they're HIGHLY dangerous" (no relations with my defect though..)
Don - "But that's just because they can creat alot of power, and can flip over quite easily"
Cop - "If you don't understand anything, I can write a letter to the court and send you to Juvenille and let them explain the law to you if you want me to?"
Don - "uh...no that'll be fine...So...If I wanted to make a complaint about this whole situation, and asking for your name, where shall i complain to?"
Cop - "pfft. ..where and what are you gonna complain about? you can't complain about the LAW, and as it states, no seat, not for on road at all! It's a DEFECT"
2nd Cop - "woe...look how fast that ferris wheel is moving"
Cop - "hehe yeah...looks pretty challenging to climb into those cages"
Don - (I start walking away, PJ Cruises with me...)
6.15pm
The End
I tried to head to the South Bank police station straight after that incident...but seeing they were closed...so no luck, but i managed to get the cops Truck and Trailer number seeing he didn't give a name..
Ford F250 (624-JBY)
Horse Trailer (795-QIE)
I'm just annoyed...put your opinions of what you think too if you like....argh!

.. thats when you know cops have nothing better to do
i dont think any emoticon in existence could describe the funniness of the situation at how utterly stupid they were!!!
"look how fast that ferris wheel is moving!" Anyone who was at Port elliot, Kheify's "its funny cos he's in the garden" quote had a more educated basis behind it than that!!!

Other than that..finding a law
section 245 of the QLD traffic act
Riding a bicycle
The rider of a bicycle must:
a)sit astride the rider’s seat facing forwards (except if the
bicycle is not built to be ridden astride)
b)ride with at least 1 hand on the handlebars
c)if the bicycle is equipped with a seat — not ride the
bicycle seated in any other position on the bicycle.
After finding this just made me wanting to go back to South Bank tomorrow and RIDE in front of the cops (basically asking for the ticket) and shut him down with that! but...we'll see

don't taunt the cops. Go down to the station if you want to take it further (I absolutely would given the way he spoke to you) with a copy of that section. Ask to speak to the officer in charge and talk about what happened. Remember that if he's in charge, he's probably much more mature than the dickhead who addressed you, so don't take it out on him. Just make it clear that you felt harrassed unnecessarily and you wanted an assurance that it wouldn't happen again, given that you were not riding a "defected" bike as implied.
Down here at least, that sort of behaviour wouldn't be tolerated. The effectiveness of the police is dependent on their public image so they should be keen to maintain that.
Good luck.

even if he goes to the station and complains.
They wont do shit, they wont even take him serious.
Cops stick together like the mob
my advise:
They want to feel superior, they want to see you get angry.
Just act like you dont care at all. Like if he says "you cant ride here ever again" just say "ehm ok :dunno:

Youre kind of an idiot. Do you understand that cops could give a shit if they are actually right or wrong? Say you go taunt him by riding in front of him after he's gotten done explaining why you cant. I doubt he would have any problem confiscating your bike and keeping it in impound for a 1/2 year to check on its defective status. After that it either gets magically "lost" in impound and sold for $20 at a police auction, or they return it to you all fucked up with a note that says "oops, guess you were right"
If you really want to get back at him without "basically asking for a ticket", feed his horse some beef-a-reno when he goes inside to get coffee or something.

I'm surprised he didn't end up doing anything to you at all. Most of the cops I've run into threaten confiscating my bike within the first 10 seconds.

Cryo, Digby, you have no clue. This is not America, nor Germany, and the police work hard here to maintain a good public image. The police don't have a culture of "superiority" here, this guy is the exception not the rule.
If Don goes down to the station to talk to the guy in charge he will be listened to and action will probably be taken. At the very least he may get an apology.

You know....read the disorderly conduct and tresspassing codes before you head down there.
If you were breaking the law by riding on the blocks, and the cops gave you shit for 15 minutes about your seatless bike instead of writing you a ticket, you got off easy, and I would NOT pursue the issue further. Hell knows, you might walk into the cop station, and during your statement, admit to a crime, and walk out with a ticket.

After thinking this through overnight or so..
I've decided i'll go riding same spot today, or as much as I can till I find this fag, and ride IN FRONT of him...provoke him somehow...and force him to give me a ticket that doesn't exist:Sonic:
Cause, as mentioned earlier as he said "You're ONLY allowed to ride in Private Property such as Skate Parks" well...the place I was riding was Private Property Owned... so SHUT down:o

yeah, America kind of sucks ballz. Its the cops job here to either ignore you or give you tickets and take away more of your money.
Example A. Got my shitty bmx bike stolen from the front of my house while at school. Go to local police station to report it, officer gives me a look like i'm retarted or something and says to me "what do you want me to do about it?" sarcastically like i'm reporting that someone just called me a dirty name or something.
Example B. Got a red light ticket a few months ago, not actually a blantant red light ticket, I went through on a yellow, the cop decided I didnt and that it was actually red. I'm going to fight it, but the charge for a red light ticket in California? $400!

ur right, not the general rule with cops here....especially in qld...qld is a tuch behind modern times with some things 2...im suprissed we even have caught up to the laws apparently created in 1900....i mean, we havent had late night shopping on thursdays for to long now...only a couple of years and have only just introduced L and P plates on cars as a trial lol
don, make sure u have a bell, reflectors, a helmet, ur riding in an allowed are and arent doing anything silly and he cant book u for anything.
as far as i know if a car made without seat belts dont get defected for not having them there from manufacturing, so y should a bike seat be any different?

I'm not trying to start a flame war, but in my opinion, based on what you have written here, People that have your kind of of attitude is one of the major reasons bike sports have such a hard time gaining acceptance. If we all keep trying to be Badasses, and like "Fuck tha po-lice" when we are probably breaking at least one law just by riding trials...our sport (and other bike sports) will just remain stuck behind this dark curtain of "criminal" behaviour. If you make a huge fuss, and the cop pulls rank, You'll probably end up in the back of his cruiser, and you'll also most likely get a fine, and loose that riding spot (for you and EVERYONE else).
Why don't you be the better man, and lay low, avoid that spot for a week or so, and then go about your business. Deliberately pissing off cops is a quick way to a big fine.
-Dan
P.S. Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into, before you force him to give you a ticket that you think doesn't exist. Ordniances like "disorderly conduct" have VERY broad grey areas and hundreds of things that they can get you on. If you talk too loud, you're guilty. If you sneer at the cop, guilty. If you swear (even once) guilty. You may think that you are right (and you probably are) but once inside a courtroom, you will loose.

You're going to get raped and it will be funny.
Why are you so angry that a cop told you to fuck off? You're jumping your bike on things that people dont usually see as being artistic.
He didn't call you a misserable little fagget or start pushing you around. Hes just doing his job.
You're going to have to accept that people get pretty pissed off when they see some kid wrecking their front lawn with their bike.
Go some where else.

Yeah, I ended up not riding in that arvo just to be the smart one so... I went to Legal Aid :)
They're keen to write up a formal complaint letter and send it to the commisioner of in charge (something along those lines) and i'll be recieving a copy of it this week or next week.
Basically for the 4 reasons:
-Missappropriate Behaviour (because they're s'pose to act politely)
-Offensive Comment
-Not supplying a name
-Not understanding the Law himself

That's like saying "I deserve to live" to a hungry wolf and then trying to scare him away with a stern look. It's not gonna do shit. Also, saying nothing will probably just piss off the officer even more, since you're obstructing justice or some such, wasting his time with your nonsense. Even if the police in your area act like spoiled eight year old children, you should act like a responsible citizen (whether you are or not). As has been mentioned, you reflect the biking community, though I would say the ENTIRE biking community, not just trials or BMX. If some punk on 5th Ave had to be maced down, the next time that guy comes upon a biker, he's not gonna screw around, he will billy club an ass, it could be yours.
