I'm currently running a 9spd on my zebdi with a 12-22T cassette and a sora derailleur and i've been thoroughly convinced to switch to single speed. now without having to switch my crankset, what're my options? ... so i guess i'd be running a fixed setup?? i'm a little confused about it all, can someone explain this to me (i'm planing on getting a rennen guide), what else do i need?
Thanks

There are two options for your.
1. Normal Cranks, normal rear hub, 1 cog on the cassette
2. Front freewheel cranks with a track cog in front, your normal rear hub and 1 cog on the cassette.
The only time you would be running a fixed hub in the rear is if you get some front freewheel cranks and put a freewheel up there. If you want to run a freewheel you can do that, if you like your hubsetup now and just dont want to deal with gears you can just stick a track cog on there.
Make sure youre chainline is straight! I cannot stress that enough. No better way to wear through chains or have your drivetrain skip than a crooked chainline.

so would those rennen cog and spacer things be the way to go?

If you dont sidehop to the right, I'd probably just recommend a singulator or something like that. The rennen isnt too adjustable by default, you have to go to a hardware store for that. But it is pretty indestructible. Ive landed a bunch of sidehops on one, for me its just a pain in the ass because its a hassle to reset it if you land on it and it moves, or if you have to take your rear wheel off all the time.

Currently on my ss setup (which is on my zebdi) I have a raceface evolve crankset with 22t cog up front and then a single cog (surly) 18t on my rear with a soulcraft convert tensioner (with a spring from a hardware store inbetween the tensioner arm and my chainstay) also, I'm running a kmc kool chain. I love this setup. It never skips and I have no chainslap.

just take off the cassette, replace it with a single sprocket and spacers, and lock out the derailleur with a short piece of cable.

Use the locked out derraileur idea, it can be pretty sturdy and such.
HeatSink is coming out with a new chain tensioner design, similar to the Rennen, but if it gets knocked out of aligntment, you just need a 5mm to fix it and you dont have to take out your wheel.

Hey man, I looked through all the pictures I have on a kodac cd i've got. And all the pictures of my bike are taken from the non-derailuer side. Sorry but it doesn't really show my setup well. Damn I need a digital camera. :wtc:

can anyone recommend a moderately priced cog/sproket?

check out the surly for a rear cog on webcyclery's page. They have a wide base like the kings so it doesn't dig into your drive shell, plus their cheaper.
