My cranks constantly get loose after I ride. I was wondering if you guys have to tighten them after every ride or not. I was thinking maybe lock tight or something?

Also, What type of tool do I need to tighten the BB area? (Not sure the name of it) It looks like a washer that you screw on with ridges on it. The thing you are looking at if you take the crank off. Cause that keeps getting loose as well.

I can tighten my cranks down, but even if I do that I can grab both cranks and everything still wiggles like something is loose or something inside the BB.

Thanks for your help.

Your bearings might be blown out in your BB. about the only way to fix this is a new BB. To tightens your BB in the frame you need a special tool.

As for your cranks getting loose after every ride. Are they square taper or ISIS? Square taper use a 8mm allen wrench with a old handlebar on the end for leverage. Tighten them very tight this will help, if the cranks are not badly damaged from them already coming loose.

First off, your BB is ready to be replaced. :ugh2: Your bearings are done and you can't tighten that up. As far as your cranks go, like he said use an old handlebar or something for extra leverage to really get them tight. If the square taper is too rounded and worn, they will come loose again and need to be replaced.

I wore out two cheap shimano BB's before getting an FSA ISIS BB and wore out a pair of cheap cranks. Best to go ISIS in my opinion...

Man... I just got this bike! I remember the BB being loose like the first week I got it. I've only had the bike for like under a month. I think I got the cranks tight now, thanks.

Well, if I ride it like it is now, will it do any more damage to anything else? I don't have the money to dish out a few hundred dollards for a new BB and new cranks. My wife will def. shoot me then!

What BB do you recomend that is good but not too expensive? Also, are they pretty easy to install? I need special tools for that right?

yer bb is prolly just loose, and yes u could use a special tool but a hammer and screw driver will work just fine. Take the cranks off, and tighten the non drive side of the bb till its nice and snug, then put that "washer" thing as u called it back on and use the hammer and screwdriver again to lock it in place. Put yer crank back on and u should be good to go. put some grease on the threads for everything, itll help it from coming loose.

Don't use a hammer and screw driver. That'll fuck shit up and it won't be tight enough. Take it in to your local bike shop and ask them to tighten your BB. $15 max. Or you could just buy the tool...guess what...$15 max. This is something you should learn to do if you plan on riding bikes for a while. Just remember that the threads on the drive side are cut in the opposite direction as the non-drive side. If you pull out the BB, you will see what I mean.

When I bought my trials bike I had the threads on my cranks go out. It made me mad sense I barely got to ride. I bought some good cranks and BB and I have been happy ever sense. Expensive parts last. It is worth the money.
Good Luck!

I had a square taper that totally stipped and it gradually got to the point where I had to tighten it after every few minutes. Untill I got my new cranks, it was awful. Good luck,

Yeah, I don't think it is just loose. I tightened it up really good and it still giggles a little. I think I'll just save up and get the ISIS type. I saw that Echo has the same type of crank/bash ring combo that came with my '05 Hifi except that they are the ISIS. Are they any good?

I want to get something good, but does not weigh a ton.

What type of ISIS set up would you recomend?

What would YOU get if money were no option?

Thanks for all your help guys!

I am interested in the Middleburn RS7 pro trials crank and bash ring, but I'm not sure if they would work with my Hifi since I have a FF.

Can anyone let me know if this set up would work for me?

Thanks

No. Middleburn doesn't make a front freewheel crank.

How difficult/ expensive is it to switch my FF to the back so I can get these cranks and bash gaurd? Right now I just have the '05 stock set up on my Hifi.

Also, I don't need a single speed freewheel on the rear if I were to do this right?

I'm just not sure if I would need a whole new rear hub set up or if I can use what I have by changing some parts out.
