I am looking into purchasing lizard skin shin gaurds (or some other brand) but was not sure if I should get the ones that protect the knees AND the shin or just the shin?
Not sure if the one with the knee protection would be uncomfortable and hard to ride with.
I was curious what most of you used and recommended? Thanks!

i use just shin.. but it sucks when you do a knee to stem.. htne you will wish you got knee/shin pads..

the knee to stem is a rather painful bump, but i guess if its really hot where you ride, the full shin and knee can get somewhat cumbersome, i'd go with shin only

I live in PA so it doesn't get too hot.
Most people you know use the lizard skins though? (Either shin and knee protection or just shin)

i love my knee and shin protection because i have short bike and i smack my knee on the stem and i dont have to stop riding for 5 mins waiting for the pain to subside. and my shins have been saved many times. i dont know wat kind mine is cause ive had them for like 2-3 years. but they have saved me many times. one last thing, try and get ones that have something in the back becuase mine didnt so i ened up making a ducktape(ghetto) backing. ok hope this helps

I have knuklebone (KB) shin guards from universal cycles and they work awesome. I have only hit my knee once, so I don't crave knee guards. They were only 25 bucks and are top quality.

I have lizard skin shin gaurds and they have saved me quite a few times too. I nail my knees on the stem a lot more times than I should but that isn't something a stem pad wouldn't solve.

lizard skins makes a stem pad call the " ball frog", it works quite well. so just get the shin guards, knee/shin combo is too bulky for trials
btw, lookout for the new line of protective gear from LS in a couple of months, the new shin guard is sweet.

I used to wear knee/shin combos but they are too large so now I just use custom molded soccer shin pads that I used to wear for soccer. I hope it helps/

I have six six one knee/shin guards, which work great, but I feel that the knee is unnessicary, and sometimes gets in the way. Also it's prety bulky, so I'd go with those lizard skin ones you're talking about.
Hope that helps your choice,
-Mikey
Also, what part of PA do you live in. Here in Pittsburgh, the summers are so hot, that when I take off my shinguards, they're soaking wet.

I cut the knee off my 661 knee/shins, and liked them much more. Then, I stopped wearing them like a year ago.

I live near Philly in Phoenixville. Yeah, I guess it gets fairly hot in the summer here. Not too bad though.
Sounds like the Lizard Skins for just the shins is the winner. LOL Thanks for your help and advise guys!
