View Full Version : Font brake suggestions
I've been using a louise magura for my front but i broke it yesterday riding and i want other one, i've been reading a lot about the avid's, other magura disc and magura rims, but there is nothing really clear on those threads, i just want to know some experiences with different front brakes and what is your set up with them, and i really liked the modulation. what do you recommend.
I use a 185mm Avid BB7 w/XTR lever and some fairly cheap housing/cable and it works great. Very good lockup and modulation. I weigh only 145 lbs so it doesnt take a whole lot to get great lockup but this brake definately does the job. The Hope/TryALL trials disc brake is supposed to be the absolute best, but I have not used it so...

I'm using a magura marta with steel braided hose and a 180mm rotor. Its the best disc brake i have ever had, and i've used em all. Magura are also fucking brilliant with warranty and support. I'll never buy brakes from anyone but magura.....ever........

Avid bb7s with a good leaver/cable housing are the way to go.

avid bb7. 185 mm at least. decent lever (avid sd5 or 7 or shimano xt or xtr). do it. do it.

deore hydro 160mm. great brake for the price good lock up and incerdible modulation. also the thing has a very hard lever feel that i like. but i will say that this brake needs the ebc red pads to really bit.

i felt one after coming from my avid mech and it was like having sex with a supermodel then turning around and beating off over a picture of a camel.

What is it with people and huge front rotors?

More stopping power? A must with a 26" wheel.

Your front brake is 70% stopping power as it is if properly adjusted. a 185 is a lot of stress on the fork. they suggest large rotors for downhill forks which can withstand the abuse of the force created by the rotor.

That's true for stoping while normal rolling/riding with both wheels on the ground.
Doesn't really apply for most trials moves.

So therefore there is no need for extreme amounts of stopping power, because you don't require that much stopping power, because you don't need to slow the momentum of your bike down, because there isn't that much momentum.

I'd like to see a trials rider complain about too much stopping power!!!

You're completely wrong. Wait till you start doing stuff on/involving your front wheel.....you'll say otherwise.
