Hi all,

Im fairly new to the trials scene, and got myself a Dawes Kovert, I was told by the guy in the shop that this was a good frame to learn on and I could use it for free riding if my trials never really took off, well to be honest I love what I've seen of trials and can Trackstand pretty good but I need to get rid of some weight because hopping is an issue for me, I can bunny hop like, 3 Inches but my frame feels real chunky.
I cant put exact specs down at the moment but heres a picture, (was this guy taking the piss or can this bike really be used for trials??) (The seat at the lowest possible extension)

You can hop and roll over stuff. Try to shorten the chain to reduce the clunking and get some good brakes pads to avoid looping out when learning to hop on the rear.

What exactly is 'looping out'?

I'm guessing that it's when your brakes slip, and you end up on your back with the bike on top of you.

Anyways, that bike seems like it could be used for learning. The seat definitely looks like it can be lowered much much more, all the way until it touches the seat post. Otherwise, you could take it off, which would help with the seat clearance and weight.

also replace steel bolts with aluminium ones (you can find boxes of them in motorbike shops and cut them to length)
Only for non critical replacement like brake levers, mech bolts, direction (for the brakes keep either steel or titanium, same for stem clamp)
Then maybe lighter front tyre.
But the bike should be fun for some street riding.:coold:

it will be hard to get much further than beginner stage on that bike. The BB looks REALLY low, even with a suspension fork.

Thanks for the replies,

At first I wasnt sure if I was going to get fully into trials, so i went for a bike I can still use for freeriding, I've got the bug for it now though and wish I'd gone and got myself a more Trials specific bike to start off with (I didnt fancy being stuck with an expensive bike that I couldnt use though).

Oh well, live and learn eh?
