I've been praticing the beginnings of trials and watching the videos and it just blows me away. At the same time tho, I have always been blown away by freestyly BMX. I am not very interested in the natural terrain stuff but more urban riding. Can I do some trials stuff (pedal kicks, rear wheel hopping etc.) on a BMX bike and have like best of both worlds? Or is it more like i need to shut up and choose one?

lol u dont need to shup up...from a frame and geo standpoint it wouldnt be impossibe to learn stuff on a bmx bike. i mean many people learn the basics on a big mountain bike before changing over. i have a specialized P2. so i can cuise around or do a little trials with it. i think it is great...

but like all bikes there are some certain disadvanges. for one BMX bikes are quite heavy unlike trials frames that can be as light at 3.5 pounds. but mostly i find that bmx brakes are not very good... and that may seriously hinder ur proformance or even lead to injury if u brakes slip on something quite high.. after i fell on my back from landing a 4 foot drop too far over i had to upgrage brakes and other parts.

the bottom line is that if u just want to dabble in trials and do mainly street bmx than it would be quite fine...but if u want to get serious about trials u should think about getting a trials bike. just remember that u can do trials on a BMX but u Cannot do BMX on a trials bike.~

You can definatly do bmx stuff on a streety trials frame. Find a planet x frame and build it up and you will be happy.

I made the switch from BMX to MOD trials...and I must say trials has many advantages such as: less dangerous (in most cases), more places to ride, easier to quickly improve, and less bike repairs. I'd also say it helps a lot coming from a bmx background. I can do some BMX stuff on my trials bike but obviously you can't get huge air with it and do tricks like a superman seat grab, but aboobicas?, tire taps, manuals, no footers, crank flips are some tricks still possible on trials. Sorry no pegs on trials! Hope you find some of this usefull.

I don't know why you would put pegs on a trials bike, but couldnt you put some on a steel mod?

Technically you could put them on an aluminum...but I wouldn't plan on your axle staying straight, and the drop out will bend like a mo fo unless you are a super smooth grinder.

That's why I said steel. Pegs on a monty x alp fo sho.
