So what's the real deal on the 360 dropouts? Any Leeson owners care to comment? I was thinking of ways to stiffen a custom frame/fork in the dropouts, but I suspect that this doesn't really offer an advantage. Well, maybe in the rear?

custom fork? how about using a bolt through system? if its good anough for 40ft hooks, then im sure a few hops cant hurt it?

im sure yonks ago there were some trials forks with a 20mm bolt through axel....

Sure, but what about the rear end? Ditch the King and go with a Hadley through axle?

The 360 looks like it would address this with a standard 135 axle, but I'm having a hard time imagining how you assemble it all and wether it really offers an advantage to standard drops with Fun bolts.

?????? oh noes it's stuck ?????????

I have a hard time believing that the 360 dropout actually stiffens the back end much. If you're using FunBolts in standard drops, I'd be very surprised if you could get any measurable flex across the droupout face.

I think the biggest advantage of the 360 dropout is the "hood" onto which the chain and seatstays are brazed. But you could always use a Koski style standard dropout for the same effect. One of the big advantages of the Koski style, is that you can easily adapt a bigger tube so long as fits within the "hood" width.

In my XC racing days, I had a Ti Phoenix with 7/8" stays welded to a 1" wide Koski dropout (made by PMW.) A friend had a Litespeed Ultimate with the fancy pants 6/4 DT, standard dropouts. My bike was noticibly stiffer. Just a subjective test of course, but I couldn't get any tire rub on my frame and I could on his.

If you want a through axle, don't ditch the king. Send it to Brian at therapy components, and have him modify it to a ten mm through axel. Kicks ass. Ill show you when I get back... does it for pretty cheap too. adds some weight, but also a ton of stiffness.

W H A T !?

A ten through CK huh? whoa.

yea,. I'm milling the ideas still... I may still go for a test ride on a longer aluminum frame just to see if it's all that, before I put 600 to 1K into a custom. How does that math work? 450 for aluminum long? Whatever,.. I'm babling,..

I really love the look of their bikes. Looks like a bike Ryan Leech would ride.

yeah, its sick. I had to have it done when I got the rear disk adaptor from him as well. He basically drills out the axel then creates holes for a pin spanner so you can still adjust the cones without the 5mm hex keys. Very professionally done. Looks like it was manufactured that way.

I would say pony up for the steel. Jerry's desalvo feels damned nice.
