Hi guys,
have a set of truvativ's that have 3 of 4 of the chainring threadings stripped. There were only two stripped but I was freaking out and went for a ride and stripped another and bent the ring. impatient i know. Question is, is this crank toast or will 3 heli coils hold the chainring 22t on securely?
thanks for any advice.

You should be able to helicoil if you can find the correct thread and a helicoil that won't require you to drill out too much of the crank material (especially since you will be landing on the bashring (high stress area)).

aren't the rings usually attached with a nut/bolt type thing, and no thread is actually in the crank?

not the granny ring - the crank is tapped directly. I think truvativ should depart from the crank business if they continue to use the same grade of alloy. Seriously it's fucking pathetic the way those cranks can't hold threads.
