All my shin guards have this nasty funk to them and it's time to get some new ones. I want some beefy guards, I really don't want to look like a storum trooper..lol. Something that I can wear in the winter as well as the summer and is easy to take on and off..

The best thing to do is not wear them at all, well thats what I do anyway. Otherwise, maybe look into some soccer shinnies. :dunno:

three consecutive simple green baths gets my gloves to the rinsing stage - I'm sure it would be the same for shin guards ?

I've got nothing, I don't hit my shins when riding, just walking.

You'll never stop hitting your shins if there's no consequences. Withing a week of when I stopped riding with shin gaurds, I stopped hitting my shins. I only rode shin gaurds for like a week when I was trying to learn ups and stuff where I would come off the pedals alot. But really, riding without them is so much more comfortable. If you still feel that you have to ride with them, the 661's are good.

The fox shin guard are really nice as well. I got mine from ebay for dirt cheap.

The new Fox shin guards look promising. The Dainese guards rock the house.

Id reccommend against the fox, try lizard skin. The velcro ripped of my fox and the plastic inside breaks with only a skight hit.

Everyday after I ride I take a shower and I bring my gaurds and gloves with me. I stomp all over them while washing and then hang them up inside the shower, theyre always dry by the next day and I never have funk.

I've tried washing them before and they still make me itch..my pads have a lot of problems. Believe, I hate wearing them, the pedals I run now have spikes in them. Even with shin gaurds, I can still feel it. I guess I'll never get away from destroying everything..lol. It sucks.

I'l look into the 661 and Dainese..
Thanks,

i use the MACE tectonic guards. they have a hard plastic outer shell, with a nice soft mesh liner. the knee cup is floating so it stays over the knee cap all the time. they have three straps below the knee and one on the thigh - they stay put!!! check them here http://www.speedgoat.com/product.asp?part=14581&cat=100&brand=375

have you or anyone else tried the Lizard Skins? How are they? I run the 661 veggies, but I'm going to be needing something new sometime. I'm looking for something fairly minimalist, tight. Perhaps the LS or new 661s? Both of those are close fitting, as my biggest gripe with the older 661s is that the straps stick out.

Lizard skins are pretty good, I wore them for a fair while. They can be pretty hot though.

I do think I like the look of them Lizard Skins, although I have not actually seen them in person. Riding without shinguards is nice, especially when its hot, but I am scared after raping my shins twice in one day recently, so... I wear them.

I've only worn the Lizard Skins so i have nothing else to compare them too. Lizard Skins are hot, but comfortable (i.e. they fit well). Now that I've been wearing them consistently when I ride I forget that I have them on. They seem to be holding up well too.

That may be the case with you but it doesn't work like that for everyone. For example I never hit my shins when I wear my shinpads, then when I forget them or just don't have them with me... BANG bleeding shin and it hurts quite a bit.

man up and put your shin guards in the trash. And ride smooth.

Hopefully these will last longer than the last pair I had, with all the riding I do. I'm sure they'll be smelling in no time, this time I might try to wash them..lol

Lizards skins are great...but they're hot and you'll get that same funk you're trying to avoid......

Get some Azonic shinguard/kneecups and cut the knee cups off....they're an open back so you'll have to "worry" about your calves...but they're not hot, and they won't get all funky. It's like 91 degrees outside right now, I used the Azonic ones and never have any issues.
