Ok so..... IM FUCKING STOKED!http://www.observedtrials.net/otn2/runaway.gif
This brake is amazing, the only flex in it is the minute cable stretch and the lever a bit because im running it loose so i dont snap it off in a crash...
Bit of a bitch to setup, but only cos i didnt look at the instructions and forgot to put on the protective tubing where it will rub against the frame.... But id gladly go through it again to get this kind of performance out of my brakes!
The nokon housin is not what i thought it would be, i thought it would all be permanently connected somehow, but each of those little links are seperate and removable (each piece contains the cylinder bit and the ball joint, they are connected) - also meaning you can lengthen your cable because they send a heap spare.
I have a fresh grind on so these pads wont last long at all (you can see the pad shavings in some of the pics) But with these HARD compound grey Aztec pads.... the brake is flawless! A lot more power than any other setup ive ridden! which is kinda worrying when im planning to put plazmatics on there.....http://www.observedtrials.net/otn2/ohnoes.gif
The feel is light and smooth, but you can feel the cable against the fibreglass inner, not bad just not hydraulic. Once the pads hit.... you hear that solid thud and bang you have power! Its silent, just has that scratching sound of the pads against the rim, a lot better than the screech of maguras!! I wonder what the plaz will sound like seeing as these brakes dont have much play in the calipers at all....
You will see im running the pads without the dish washers, the pads hit FLAT no pissy little setting up just align the pad on the rim and tighten! no messing around to get it to hit flat, just does that when you tighten. I TOTALLY reccomment this for every vee brake user! VERY solid and easy to maintain. Yes by the end of your pad life it will end up at an angle and you may have a little wasted pad, but its so worth it!!
You may also notice that there is no Noodle used, the brakes come with the little machine bit of alloy needed to slot into the noodle holder (im sure theres a better name for that....) even less hassle when setting up brakes.
Here are the pics, feel free to ask me anything about em.
If you LOVE vee brakes then you MUST run this setup, no buts.
hope the review was ok, im a bit scattered when typing em....

oh and im running the lever at the "best feel, least leverage" setting.... its still feels great when screwed in.... but can flex the frame a little.

how much did the setup cost ?

web cyclery is great and all, but I think it very weird that a package can get from oregon to australia, some 5000 miles, in 2-3 business days, yet take the exact same amount of time to get from oregon to the middle of california which is some 500 miles away.
very weird.

yeah it was probably 3 days, but i guess it had the weekend for the flight to get here, it was 3 working days.... still i was expecting something more like 7...
Shimano booster are the best vee booster EVER made, cant beat em for weight and stiffness! but of course shimano are shit and stopped making them, so if you ever see one - get it!
The whole setup cost me around the $350AUD mark id say.... worth every penny!

same diff, another couple hundred miles further. I think it took a week for me to get something from there once.
Shimano is staffed with morons in their product management dept if the engineers can make something as cool and usefull as the xtr carbon booster and the management dorks can take it away

seems like you're really pleased with it Peace :wiggle:
I may go and invest on one of those...possibly next week then?
But yeah, you mentioned that your calipers are sticking out a bit....and is this because you're using the Try All rim? the 47mm wide one? cause i'm intending to use the Plazmatics pad with my current Dx32 rim...i'm hoping that'd be better?

Nice! Those adapters are the shiznat, I've got mine set up with SD5's and they rock. I think if i stiffen up my cable (either nokon or something else that works) it'll feel amazing.
Nice setup, V's kick ass!

yeah they stick out a little but cos im running the pads without the spacer dish thingys/washers... they are sticking a lot less than they could be. I am running a 47mm tryall rim, so a DX32 you would run the adaptors on the outter hole (bringing the vee mount closer to your rim) and it would be sweet.
I guarantee that anyone who rides my bike will want this brake straight away, i dont know what the fuck the euros are doing on magura! This is less prone to breaking and 10189238471903478591736 x more powerful and easier to maintain, and im not even runnin Plaz on there yet!!
Felix.... your pretty close to it, just a few more parts and your there!! also yours would be even better than mine because you wont need to use the adaptors....
Peace - enjoying the silence.

2.
1 is for thin rims and 3 is for wide but it didnt fit my booster so i used # 2 and took all the spacers out of my pad then put em on the back of the bolt to it could still tighten up.

Hey Peace,
Nice setup man! Someone correct me if I'm wront, but, about the Vbrake nokons. I think the slightly smaller pearls are supposed to house the cable closest to the Vbrake attachment, so you can achieve a tighter radius. If you get regular nokons, the pearls are all the same length, but if you get the mtb set for vbrakes, they you get a couple of the smaller ones. It's prolly not worth re-doing the setup, but when you change your cable and/or liner, maybe try it that way...

yeah i did notice those little seperate ones, but yeah ill do that when i replace the cable. works immaculate at the moment so yeah im not fussed....

what dose the nokon mtb set for vbrake consist of? is it only a housing or is there a cable too?

The Nokon system consits of a plastic liner and aluminium pearls, that are put on the liner like pearls on a necklet.
The cable runs inside the plastic liner.

xc bike? what a waste :-)
I just run flak jackets on everything, works pretty well for me. Might get some of those nokons when I pick up my ultimates...won't seem as hurtful then :-)
