I just got my Echo Control 1085.

All your typical sweet parts and such, 105x17 Try-All stem. I'm 6'2". This bike, feels so amazingly....Poor....On the rear wheel. That's all I have to say. Everything else is fine, but the bike is puny (unlike everyone thinks), and just feels terrible on the rear.

I spent a lot of money this, for the sole purpose of that 'feeling' on the rear.

*Sigh*

Any suggestions on how I could improve it? (Urban fork BTW)

Elsewise, I still highly enjoy my new bike. Yay. Control.

I cant give you any practical advice, but how long since you got your new bike?
Maybe you just need some time to get used to it.. especially if you've been riding shortish bike before..

I just got my Control 1085 also and I'm exactly the same height as you. What was your previous bike? Mine was a 1050 mm Platecode so comparing to that my Control feels amazing on the backwheel. I have the default set-up, all Echo parts.

Try All bar? If so ditch it for something useful.

That was constructive Brett, with suggestions for what those useful things might be and everything.

haha uh oh tobe i smell trouble...

maybe it could be your position over the bike. I know when I started riding longer wheelbase bikes it felt alot better (and looks alot nicer) if you bend your arms and knees. you want to be right above the rear axle and maybe it takes some time to find the 'feeling' you are talking about.

Hmm. True. I've only riddin about 2 hours total so far, but what I'm referring to is that sort of instant "Holy crap this thing is EASY on the rear!" sensation you get on some bikes, the first time you mount them. The last time it happened to me was I tried out a guy's Brisa B26 once. I was floored, it felt like a mod.

I'm actually comming off of a mod, but believe me when I say, this bike feels FAR better than the mod does (Monty 219 X-Hydra), The mod was snapped at the chainstays before I got it, and the guy welded an extra inch of steel in there...

But perhaps a longer stem would help? I'm trying out my XC stem tonight, see how that works out

Oh, and Brett, what's so bad about the Try-All bars?

How long have you been riding???... every new steed is going to feel a little "strange"at first especially if you had a shorter w/b frame

Haha. Well personally anything to me feels better. Bolt a broom handle in there for all I care.

I don't get those bars at all. They just have a really weird sweep for me. I know I'm not the only one. Yes you can get used to it, but I gotta figure if someone wanted to do some goofy tests to figure out the most ergonomic bar this would rank dead last I gotta figure.

Even when I rode the horrible bar I was more annoyed. The bike feels more or less the same on the rear tho. That bike should feel like gold compared to a Brisa. Maybe your bike is really heavy and the Brisa is light or you've just been out of the loop or are confused or something.

Well if you have only riden it for two hours, You're going to have to go for a little longer than that to make any actual decisions.

Going from my pure to my buddies control feels awesome. Ride it some more.

I'll trade you a barely used echo pure 1085, feels amazing on the rear wheel.

I'm 6'3" and my Control 1085 feels pretty good on the rear, try using different stem lengths/deg. or bars.

Maybe that'll work for you..

Good England??

Maybe think before you type, that post made little sense to me. :dunno:

hello?
06-25-2005, 05:43 PM
id say try a longer stewm which would make it easier. different bar angles as well. another thing that really changes how it feels on the rear is the weight of the front of your bike unless it is already light. if it has some heavy parts on it it makes a big difference to the feel on the rear. another POSSIBLE thing is the gear ratio?? but i cant say if that would make much of diffence. shouldnt at least.

There are usually two types of bike riders. Those that can jump on any bike and instantly feel comfortable and do all their moves. Then there is the type that never feel comfortable on a new bike and need time to get used to it. This seems to apply to all types of bikes.

I would give it a few more rides before you start making any crazy changes or start breaking out the prozac.

Good Luck.

yeah stem rise (or spacers) are also very important.
I removed a big 15mm spacer under my already high rise stem and now pulling up/going to rear/ pedal ups feels much easier because the bar is now lower and i can push more/ use my body more

Devilish, its not that you don't speak the English langauge, just that you don't write it that well.

Please for the sake of all the non-Poms on this board, write concise sentences with at least some grammar or structure.

Cheers.

Hmm. Awesome info folks, thanks.

Yeah, I'm one of those riders that takes a while to get accustomed to any bike.
I took it out about 4 hours today, and it was awesome...I still suck, I've been off of a trials bike for 2 years now. But after 3 nights I have have successfully mounted 27" to rear in a low speed pedal up, so I'm getting there.

I'm definately going to try lowering the stem. I still haven't tried a longer one, but a lower rise sounds feasible.

As a side note, the Rim Wrangler 2 brake pads that come stock with the Avid SD7's, kick ass IMO. No grind/tar/or anything. Just a plain DX32, and these pads...Even in rain, they lock up amazingly well. Only another testement to how brilliant Avid brakes are.

Time to eat.

If the DX32 is brand new than that would be why. The machined sidewalls will help with that. Almost like a grind.

I'm 5'6'' and my Echo Control (1085) is better than sex. It took me a few weeks of riding to get used to it but these echo bikes are sick on the back wheel. If you want instant gratification make some cup-o-noodles =/

Give her time, she will come around ;)

Well yeah for sure, I've used Plaz and Bloxx before...And the RW's are NOTHING in comparison.

But, I couldn't get a hold of anything else, and figured I literally wouldn't be able to ride. But for a last minute resort, they're not so bad.

Trying out the new stem in a couple hours now....

Awesome. My question about a trials bike turned into a topic about music. I feel special.

I'm growing quite attached to this bike now...
