hey everyone. I am having some issues with my rear hs33 which i hate with a passion. when i ride trials, i would like POWER. i don't really have an ounce of street in me so modulation is not needed. i have a 05 pitbull with dedicated magura mounts. plaz pads (yellow) are set up perfectly square and a 4 bolt booster is used. just put a fresh gind on the rim. speaking of rims, it is a tryall xxl. i just put on a grind tonight and went out for a quick ride. grind is now not so much of a grind. regardless, with a fresh grind and the plaz pads, i figure i should get some good braking power for a bit. problem is i don't get lock up. no sqeak....more of a slip. i have had better luck with no grind, plain black pads and tar.

i am thinking it might be the rim???? too soft perhaps??? but then i figure it should have some power with a fresh grind. kind of at a loss here. other pads? new rim?

suggestions would be great.

yeah. the key is to use a little bit. in my case i just put some on one side of hte rim and i have perfect braking and no worries unless i ride through a lake.

ivbeen told many times to clean my pads after grinding my rim, scrub them with a scor pad and dish soap(make sure you rinse the soap off really well)

Is this the first time you have grinded your rim? If so just ride for a day or two and your pads will bed in properly and you should have some good brake power.

Your brakes might need to be bled as well?

If not do as elan said, use a little tar. When my grind runs out and I am too lazy to do it again I just use tar.

I don't grind my rims or use tar, but I have found that simple green all purpose cleaner works really well. Just use it to clean the rim, then spray or wipe on a thin coating, but don't wipe off. It squeaks like hell, but it works really well and no tar residue. Just something to think about.

it could also be that your lever isn't topped up with fluid... I had the same problem recently, it wouldnt lock at all when my lever was pulled as far in as possible/

PS. are the Plaz pads brand new??

thanks for all the replys.

the brakes are definitely topped up and there is no noticeable squish to the brakes.

the pads are indeed new as well as the rim. i didn't clean the rim or the pads however so maybe that might be the cause of the problem. i'll give that a try.

i used to grind my mavic 721 and use coolstop slamon pads and some shitty vbrakes...worked great. never squeeked though....

i'll have to sand down the pads and then use them a bit to see if they seat themselves in.

thanks for the help. more suggestions are appreciated!

new pads- there's your answer. I changed to a new set of Plaz bout 6 weeks ago. They needed a few rides wearing in.. i had a fresh grind and full lever and it wouldn't lock either. Now it works pretty well.

I just put on a set ofn Koxx Bloxx and on a shitty grind they instantly worked betetr than my plaz pads. I also have some Blue plaz to try out as wel!! :hyper:

Definately wear them in a bit, ride in some water and shit, that seemed to help mine, not sure why.

Never put tar on a grind, the tar just rubs off on the dust from your rim and turns it into evil.

I dont know...once and a while when my grind wears down a bit I put a little tar on and fuck. That is sweet, But a fresh grind feels better.
