when i walk my bike the pedals rotate by themselves, and when i ride my bike all sorts of noises are coming from the freewheel like rocks rattling.

whats going on and can it be fixed?

the pedals are meant to rotates themselves i thinks, maybe you've got play in your bottom bracket and are mistaking it for sound in your freewheel?
you could just remove your freewheel and check it out?

Check if the lockring of the freewheel is tight!
If it's loose, tighten it and use Loctite or superglue to prevent it from coming loose again.

Also check if cranks and bottom bracket are loose.

check if the freewheel is tight and superglue it

or u can take it apart, clean everything (watch out for the all the tiny ball bearings!) and put it back together again (its no fun)

oh yeah, it may possibly be your chain, its its all sandy i may make a sound

i suggest taking everything down there apart, giving it a good clean

i do that once in a while to have the bike look clean

also try using the search function, I've seen this topic way too many times...

also, if the crank spins on its own, that might suggest an out of line chainline.. try adjusting the chainline, that might help with the rotating cranks

If your running single speed your chain might be under too much tension.
