View Full Version : rear hub tech question?
If I change my cassete setup to single speed (via spacers) on a non single speed hub, with the desired gear centered on the hub for alignment with the front cog, will it screw up my hub. The guy at my shop said it would wear the hub out sooner. Is this true and why?

no the guy at your shop is an idiot. Every trials rider only rides one gear (maybe 2... for those who shift) So if that guy was right... ALL our hubs would be rooted by now.
Go for it, wont do anyharm. what a local guy here did was had his riding gear in the middle (or lined up with the front) and then had 2 BIGGER cogs on either side of it so the chain couldnt come of, or if it did shift it would only shift onto an easier gear and not onto the spacers... kinda like this (with out the dot on the i) ...lil...

It all depends on the hub body and what cog you are using. If the hub is alum and the cog is nice and thin it will eventually go around and the cut the hub. If you use something like king which has a wide base you should be fine.
thanks Peace, sounded odd to me.

No man, some local shops are kind of mental. One local guy told me they call a DX-32 the name because it only comes in a 26" 32 spoke hole count? Sure enough, we all know he's on crack.
talking about weird peple - my mechanic told me that hs33 cant run dx32! and he is official magura dealer for my country..
some people just say loads of crap..

you shouldve questioned him with the simple question "why? ...why not?"
