Hi Guys,

Just curious if anyone has been using the Shadow Interlock Chain? I've been breaking all kinds of chains recently, including a KMC 1/8x3/16 Koolchain.

I'm running A middleburn 16t front ring to a 13t cog on the back and the chainline couldn't be any straighter.

I'd prefer to hear from people who are actually using the Shadow, but any imput is welcome.

Thanks,

Adam

if youre running a 16T front, a shadow is probably a wise choice. i have one on my xtp, its a great chain. just a little heavy.

Yeah, I love the way that set up rides, if I could find a chain that would handle it. Middleburn make a one piece bash/16t ring.... Looks unreal

I have one on my mod. Excellent chain, looks cool, completely unneccesary. If a Kool chain isn't working for you, you're doing something wrong.

Could try the KHE Collapse chain? Guaranteed to run silky smooth on even 9t cassette hub drivers, so it should be able to take the tightness of the 16:13 set-up? I've heard a lot of negative stuff about hte Interlock, mainly regarding stretching. That's largely from BMXers, so I hate to think what trials would do to it :S

But then again, the new trend in BMX in small as hell gearing, while maintaining the 44-16 "feel". IE-running 25-9. Looks like a good chain and my buddies say its great. Might be a little weak for some but the guys who have broken it are hacks at sprocket shit.

Im running interlock. It is true it stretches in the begining. But name me which chain doesnt!!
It is a bit heavy. But its fucking unbreakable. Id recomend you kool because it is great and cheap - but if you have allready broke one, then I say go for shadow interlock!
btw. I recomend using some kind of tensioner with it

It's funny cause he's in the garden....! Simon you crack me up....... As a physics wiz kid, what do you reckon about the shadow, just on looks..... I'm hearing a lot of talk about stretching, which I'm not into...... I think I might just be throwing a new Koolchain on my bike once a month

well yeah the fact that each link has a bend means its gonna want to bend back when you pull on it. With these sorts of things though you just have to go by your or other people's experience. It may be worth a try if your only other option is to buy a chain each month anyway. I might make a bmx order from flatlandfuel.com in a few weeks, i can get the one for you in that order so you dont have to pay as much for shipping as you do for the chain itself.

I'll let you know... thanks...

if the shadow links did tend to straighten out, the links would stiffen as well as stretch, as the outer plates would press against the inners.

That's a good point..... Sounds like the kind of shit that would happen to me..... I'm seriously considering stockpiling Koolchains..... This shadow option sounds like too much of a 'maybe' to me......

and expensive, given no distributor. www.fortheriders.com can get you koolchains for cheap (<$20), just get three at a time. And get a chain checker.

If your gonna bust that many anyways you may as well give it a whirl, You might find you never snap another chain again and save yourself a packet. Otherwise just go back to the coolchains.

BTW where are you using the internet?

Hmmmm, perhaps. I can get Koolchains off Chrisko for next too nothing. I spoke to John at Cycle Underground this afternoon..... He reckons that the Shadow will be more problems than it's worth... And Peace you know I regard his opinion very highly, he knows a lot about making shit out of metal.

I think I might just go the Koolchain stockpiling idea, I'm gonna be spending less on other bike stuff now (thankyou BikeTrials Australia). I think I'd feel better having the confidence that the oldest my chain will ever be is a month or so.

I hate that low confidence feeling when you're not really trusting part of your bike.....

Anyway, I need to get a chain in the next couple of days, so who knows, the next Kool I get might last for two years, like AK's.....

And yeah Garth, I'm at Kimie's.... Living here again, but in my own room this time..... It's cool

yeah i was there when you called. has he seen or used one tho? seeing as they arent imported....

but yeah john knows his shit, but i still reckon they would be strong as fuck!

also it coulda just been a dodgy link... who knows.

Yeah.... I don't think it's worth the hassle of getting one into the country. I'm gonna be Koolchainin' it i think...... Just replace them heaps..... And thankyou Joel, I will be buying a chain measuring device......

edit: Elan, this is not in fact the Shadow thread in the Australia forum but the one in the general discussion forum. I still don't trust you after what you made Alex do to himself

Yeah Joel, I am using the quick link.... The only chain I have ever used a joining link.... The thing is as tough as hell I reckon.... Don't think you'd be able to run it if you had a cassette on the back..... But who does that

Anyway, I think this thread is dead..... So thankyou all for your help....

If the Shadow chain is strong, it's probably because of the bushings. For a less stretchy version, try a KMC 410H. You never realize how much bushingless chains flex until you ride a chain with bushings.

Get the KHE, i used KMC on the same but i ran 16:12 even went to 16:11 at one point. The shadow chain streches and is no good. KHE all the way
