I've got a hayes mech. It was shit until I Avidified it using their expensive, patented CPS technology. Now it's OK. Better than a magura Julie.

i would rather get kicked square in the nuts than run a julie. ive never felt one that i liked. so out of those two- the hayes mech. but if you're getting a mech disk you might as well throw down for an avid. they have the bb5 and bb7 now. i'd rather have a bb5 than a hayes mechanical.

agreed.. the julie was horrible, if it wasn't slipping all the time, it was bursting.
I'd say the hayes if thats your only other option. Atleast you can get a solid brake lever for it.
the julie was just some cheap composite garbage that flexed and felt like it'd snap and parts would fly up and embed themselves in my face, or chest area.

However, if you want an avid, but still want to go Hydraulic...splash out on Avid juicy 7...160mm is £104...it goes on from there.....

that's like saying Dan, if you wanted a wheelbarrow, I would recommend this Kelso.
wtf ?!

Ive tried both julie 8" and hayes meh 6". they both REALY sucks!! Dont get any of them because it will be a waste of money.
even with julie 8" rotor i couldnt get the lock. Not to mention it bleeds very often
hayes meh is crap too. doesnt have enough power to lock while riding 3mph (I tried it on a street bike)
I hope I helped :)

Wheelbarrows have avid disc-brakes?
wtf?
I'd still run hydro over ANYTHING cable actuated, even avid. But that costs money, so unless you are ponying up for at least a Magura Louise, Shimano Deore or the cheaper version of Avid Juicy's then,...
um,.
hayes mech over julie. (the magura rep said those julies only cost $15 an axle to manufacture)
But for my wheelbarrow I need Magura Gustavs with the 208mm rotor.

I don't think we can get the barrows with mounts for 208, there's a bit of rotor rub. Some customers have had good luck with 203mm rotors but you have to be prepared to fiddle a little bit. If you know what you want though, go for it.

I have the Julie 180mm, and it's okay for XC. Nothing i'd use on a trials bike though.

a bit? the hope/try-all brake is way more expensive than the set ups this guy is originally asking for. "should i buy the saturn or the escort?"... "why not save up a little and buy a ferrari"
the try-all sucks anyways ;)

quick add on question. Now that more time has elapsed since the bb5 came out, has anyone compared a bb5 to a bb7 for power? Easy of setup shouldn't really be an issue, seeing as you can adjust the stationary pad with a hex key, and change the position of the moving pad with the barrel adjuster. I'm really wondering if the guts are the same, like could you develop the same power???

its a hydro hayes. he asked about hayes mx - cable disc.
anyway - hfx9 doesnt have enough modulation, good power though. (I owned 2 hidro hayes)
