I'm not that smooth, and my 8" avid rotor up front is getty pretty wacked. I dont have a rotor truing tool, so any suggestions on trying my rotor? I've used the crescent wrench method, its works alright, but i'm still searching if there is a decent way to just the rotor damn straight. and not hitting the rotor is not an option.

thanks

crescent wrench method is the best, no other cost effective way.

I just use my fingers to true the rotor (with clean gloves of course). Crescent wrench puts too much stress on a single point.

I use a screwdriver. This is all a truing tool is anyway, really.

You could take it to a shop that has a rotor truing device.
I only charge people a couple bucks, and get rotors w/in .002 of an inch. 8inch rotors take a lot more force to tru, call me an anal prick but i like using the right tools for the job.
And as faras the cresent wrench applying too much force on the same spot....the rotec drum sticks have less than half the thickness of a standard cresent wrench and work like a charm...granted a reg cresent wrench doesnt have much depth in comparison.

Take it to a shop. my .02

I work at a shop and we dont have a rotor truing tool(we dont ever work with discs). I may check out those rotec drum sticks, I have only used the MOrning Star thing for the TS-2.

Thats what they arrr i forgot the name, morning star, the ts2 mounted device is the one i use. It is definitly a must have investment for yur shop, ours has been payed for easily in one season...and I get free useage :naughty:

get one seriously, hold your manager hostage, go on a hunger strike. It adds a whole level of professional service for the new standard of brakes.

I hope my words will persuade you.....now if I could only persuade my manager for a bb tap/facer!

I have just been using two crescent wrenchs in an attempt to pull the ding center. Works alright I guess...still a bit crooked.
Heat it up with a torch first and then hope it doesn't explode.

as bikes evolve so do tools, why cant people see this, goddamn hippies

5gs for a reamer????!!! and how often is that used? thats ridiculous.

No idea, its the oldest bike shop in North America, so theres a lot of old but really nice tools(Phill Wood Spoke Cutter, Campy stuff). Hes just an old schooler, just appreciates old road and track stuff and new Ti stuff.

I like the cut of his jib

fucking disk brakes, can't get modulation like with my newfangled XTR cantilevers - shiny new '96 models...anything that's good enough for that lovely Miguel Martinez chap is good enough for me.

Give me a nice reynolds fixie anyday though. I have the world's largest collection of suzue 110mm hubs.

Those campy tool kits go for like, some money on ebay every now and again. Can't face ti frames though can they ? NOOOOOOOOOOoooooo ! ...Stupid pomodoro munching greasies

thats it im quitting my job and working at your shop.
My shop sent me out to barnetts and I practically had to beg for new tools when I got back and still turned down many of my requested tools. Its like being taught to use a graphics calculator, then using an abbacus.:squint:
