hi, im currently deciding whether to change from a short frame to a long one, and im just wondering (from people who have made the change) how it affected the following:
Sidehops
Gaps
Front Taps
Front Hooks
Pause Hop Ups (or ups from static)i'd prefferably like mod riders to answer but i dont mind stock riders answering and if youd like to add any things it affected i would appreciate it, also nobody say "use the search" because i have been reading loads
also would you say a 1030 length mod would be a alright length for front taps and if your a mod rider do you find tapping more effective than bunnyhopping and how high can you tap and bunnyhop.
of topics on this but i want people to answer my specific questions, thanks :joshers:
i switched from a super short X-alp (not sure exactly, maybe 975MM) to a 1033MM Echo Team. It makes tapping a lot easier, but bunnyhops are difficult because of the extra length. It's also really comfortable on the rear wheel because as a result of the longer cockpit, you are a little more upright. I do not have any problem with sidehops, if anything they are easier for some reason. Overall the longer bike helped my riding a lot.

it sure is hard to just get some fucking help these days?
Sidehops- not that much different. i guess in theory it is differeent because you are pulling on a longer lever but in reality that's not what makes a sidehop, it's your legs.
Gaps- same thing. i liked the longer frame because i had more room int he cockpit to make use of in the gap. roomier is better i think. im used to riding a stock bike so when i gap on short mods i pretty much pound the crap out of my legs with the bars.
Front Taps- taping on mod is hard. on a longer frame it is easier but that's not to say it cant be done on a small one as well. i did notice it being easier on a long bike. but non-tap just straight up ol fashioned pedal ups i thought were easier on a short bike.
Front Hooks- shorter bikes mean you move the bike less to get it up onto the object. bb height and bar set up has more to do with hooks than wheelbase i feel. however, the long frame felt more like my stock bike and i could hook much better with a long frame.
Pause Hop Ups- not sure exactly what this is but im assuming your front wheel is rested on top of somethign and then your hopping up it? anyways, long frames are better here. you can be on something the same height and not feel like you are going to roll over backwards off it from your bike being too steep.
basically the best thing is to try out people's bikes. i feel better ona stock bike so a long mod worked much better for me. but that's just me and it may not be the same for you.
it all pretty much depends on style. my guess is htat if youre riding a mod, youre into natural. and if youre even considering along frame, that tells me htat you ride more "uci" style. from there it depends on your height. when it comes to mod bikes, they are all really close, but if youre over 6'0 a monty is absolutely horrible to ride. ive ridden a couple of different mods. 1033 feels liek a great geo, i have yet to ride a 1045, but i think if i were to get a mod it would be the python long.

I ride streety trials on a 1080 echo pure and I really like it. The long frame gives you so much room for ups and gaps and everything. Learning to manual and spin is kind of hard but you get used to it.
I guess it's up to you. I could never go back to a smaller frame, if anything I would be willing to try something a little longer. But for the time being, the long frame has helped with everything I could think of having to do with trials. Gaps keep getting further, ups get higher, side hops, front wheel moves.
Oh and I am 6'3" if that matters.
Some people dont like them though.
