I installed the older style tryall isis cranks onto an FSA platinum pro bb a week ago. Neither of the arms went on well, the nondrive esp. Now after numerous rides carrying an 8mm allen with me- tightening as I ride- the left side arm is still a few mm's further out than the drive side and the bb flutes are still visible.

The left side just wont go on any further yet it creaks like all hell but there is no noticeable play... Looking at the splines on the crank arm you can see that the taper on the splines looks rather extreme, it looks terribly unlikely a bb will even fit the deepest part of the crank arm- thus preventing it from ever being completely on.

The quality of the cranks isnt the most impressive, which leads me to think, optimistically, that Ive got a defective part and I should just try to exchange. The alternative is that you guys tell me what to do and it works. Im skeptical at this point though. The BB is tight btw.

At this point, will seating these things all the way- if possible- even make a difference? They seem fooked.

beat it on with a hammer, its what i did :dunno:

tried it.

Im thinking about a long bolt to run through the spindle, then a couple washers and a long ass metal pipe. I keep rounding out 12mm bolts- because I suck and dont know how to use tools- because its that g'damn tight.

Wait, so your cranks just keep coming loose every few minutes?

No. They dont come loose, they just dont go on all the way, one more than the other. To be honest, I could handle it if they were both bent and different lengths but the creaking has to stop.

did you grease the spindle?

Are you sure the cranks just dont go that far? My try-alls leave room on my FSA Platinum Pro but their on, its jsut a long spindle. I may have no idea what I'm talking about.

my tensiles leave a little space on my truvativ (I dont know the model) isis BB. They are tight and dont creak but there is still a small gap between the crank and the bb.

my tensiles were hard to get on... i greased the spindles good, put a block of wood over the crank and beat it with a hammer as much as i could then the bolts would finally reach the spindle threads enough to tighten down

Have you tried using a micrometer? if you torque the cranks to the recommended torque I wouldnt think there should be a problem. id try contacting tryall first just to make sure the gap is normal

Did you apply 242 loctite to the driveside cup? you may want to borrow a torque wrench, torque the fsa non drive cup to 347-434inch lbs. apply grease to the non drive cup, crank bolt threads/the spindle.

The creaking is most likely from poor fit on the spindle or perhaps from the bb cups.

good luck, let us know what happens.

Im so embarassed I thought about not posting.

Apparently the dropouts are connected to the cranks on my bike because after I lubed between the left dropout and my king hub my cranks stopped creaking.
:wiggle:
The worst part is that I thought about it a few days ago and said 'naah, cant be, the cranks are the only thing new der herf'

It was tricky see, I havent had that noise before and it starts as soon as I put on new cranks... (and cleaned my bike and hub...)

Word to Ti prep, works much better than grease under your stem, handlebar and on my dropout. Id highly reccomend it along with common sense.

You give such good advice. Too bad these trials companies don't follow specs as well as you do. I bet none of these crank manufacturers can legally even call their cranks ISIS.

There is not supposed to be a gap with ISIS. If anyone thinks there is they aren't ISIS. There is a standard. I guarantee Try All doesn't even know it exists.

Cool, didnt actually notice, my shop does pretty much only truvativ isis. Good to know in any case.
