Are they also going to perform a "half time" show like they do in Spain?

Trophy girls is somthing I'll have to work on.

The guy that over see's the MTB park showed me the campfire area last Saturday and its a little larger than a normal campsite, more like bonfire!

MegamoMidwest, its been said that you may leave trials to race full blown MX quads!

well, you know me. everything I touch turns to gold....

haha but I am talking about those dirt-picky-uppy things that duncan dumped alex out of last year, after he drove him around in the shovel.

I'll talk to eric tomorrow and tell him that our comp is hanging in the balance if we don't have the tractor out.....

don't worry paul I'll make sure it's there.

Dale,

I hope you can make it, Isaac has recieved 4 or 5 emails from Michigan riders that are showing interest.

Also, I have talked to a couple of people who are planning on showing up Friday afternoon, will probably have a small practice session and hit the local mexicana restraunt in the evening.

I highly suggest to everyone if you have a xc/fr bike bring it along because the 10 mile xc course is in tip top condition!

I hate to say it but I have absolutely no idea where this comp is though I am sure it has been mentioned here before. I suppose I should start reading some threads.

it's in winona lake indiana. 1001 E. Canal St Winona Lake IN 46590 is the address of the bike shop I work at, the shop is about 4 blocks from the trail, the trail dosen't have a address.
if you surch for "old boys club trail" on yahoo the first result that comes up is the mtb trail where the comp is being held!

It had been up in the air for a while, but it looks like I'll be showing up with another rider, lookout y'all. Well, not lookout as I have hardley ridden this year due to injuries, but I'm still looking forward to a good time.

Modtire, I take it your Peter Helenbrand?

The sections we built today are really cool, we have some real fun stuff lined up this year! Also, a whole lot of prizes, bike parts, and of course 50 some plaques.

The Pro/Expert lines are real tough this year, higher scores to be expected.

The Sport sections are just fun as heck! I do not know how else to describe them. The creek section is a hoot, I rode it a Dozen times today!

We have been more creative with the Novice sections this year, we are expecting a much larger turn out in this class from the feed back we have recieved.

The event is looking good!

Sammy, I suck. Unfortunately the comp is not in my financial cards this year. Rudy and Andrew were kind enough to offer me a ride to the comp but I just cannot make it.

I know it id going to be a great comp.

I am going to try to organize a trials free for all at a downhill comp in Grand Rapids. It would be completely free, just show up and ride. It will depend on Redbull signing on. I will be working on that Tomorrow (Saturday.

Good luck and try to have fun - it is hard when you are the event organizer (Flint nearly killed me two years in a row).

This weekend was definetly worth the 6+ hour drive i took to get there. First comp i've ever been to, and it was a great first experience. I got the chance to meet some other guys from otn like roman C, duncan, and i think megamomidwest (on a coust?) If anyone else from the forum was here tell me what bike you were riding so i know who you were. The weather was perfect. we went with a group to a local restaraunt after the first day of riding, it was very good. in the evening we set up camp and hung out around the bon fire

After the comp of day 1 we took down the tape off section 5 and rode all over it, i was able to take some pictures with my video cam:

(I wasn't in any of these pictures, i was busy taking them)

I have lots of video footage, and will hopefully be putting together a simple comp video sometime soon.

btw, i was that tall fucker (with the older echo pure and tensile cranks)

thanks to everyone who made it happen! Let's hear from everyone else!

AWESOME COMP! PUT IT ON YOUR LIST FOR NEXT YEAR!
Right off the bat, the town of Winona Lake is an absolute gem in the midwest. Great place for a weekend getaway.

I attended the Sat session and had a great time. In the Expert sections which I rode, the sections were set about as perfect as you can get. Scores ranged from 50's to mid 20's. That's always a sign of good section building, where a wide range of skills are tested and no one rider cleans everything.
Section highlights included:

The water section:
A creek crossing that sent a couple of riders swimming.

The stairs:
a recently unearthed set of stairs that went up about 20 feet, leveled off, turned and then up 8 or so more feet. (this section alone did more damage to the rider's scores that the other sections, as it was a fatiguing(sp?) forearm devestator).

The prizes for the comp were very nice. Three deep is cool but a generous 6 deep would've really kicked a$$. Nice handmade plaques and swag was in full effect (including angle grinders - hadn't seen that before at a comp. Nice touch!)
The checkers were super friendly and let a couple of things slip by(which is to be expected at a "regional" type comp.) but overall were very competant. Now being the old sly fox I am, I did get to pull a jedi mind trick on a newbie checker when my foot dragged and tapped on the ground. I had a clean three but that should've fived me. Instead of asking "did I just five?", I asked "how many points do I have?". His response: "well I'll just give you one one that", Hehe, just a lil tip for you youngsters for your good ol uncle Squirrelio.

Huge props to Eric, Sam, Issac and all the checkers and crew on making this event a real winner. Sun-Ringle and trialsin.com should be proud to be hooked up with this event.

I've got about 70 more pictures that I have to go thru and weed out the crummy ones and compress whats left.

Northern Indiana Bike Trials Competition
May 21-22, 2005
By Sam Markley

Great weather and great riders drew a huge crowd at the Northern Indiana Biketrials Competition. There were crowds of 20+ spectators at two different sections at the same time.

Once again, Duncan Kopp Richardson dominated the Pro class on Saturday. Sunday's Pro class was brilliantly won by Madison, Wisconsin's Peter Hellenbrand.

Traveling all the way from Harbor Springs, Michigan, Ryan McVicker took first place in Expert on Saturday. Even though this was his first comp, he advanced to Pro on Sunday and placed second. Sunday's Expert winner was Jim Keck from Evansville, Indiana.

There was a heated battle in the sport class both days. Kelly Catlin competing in his first comp swept the class. There where 7 riders on Saturday and 8 riders on Sunday, by far a fun class.

It was exciting to see the amount of new novice riders, this shows our sport is growing. Motorcycle trials rider Blaine Heppner competed in his first biketrials event and landed a victory both days.

The spectators really enjoyed the 5 Unicyclists that competed. Isaac Lemasters won on Saturday, and Conner Helser took first on Sunday, followed by John Rierson, who won the B class Saturday. South Bend, Indiana rider Joshua Torraels won the B class Sunday.

Thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors in organizing this event. Hope to see all of you next year!

Sponsors: Trailhouse Bike Shop - Winona Lake, Indiana and Trialsin.com - thanks Tim!

Sorry, the results got crunched! I'm not to hot at pasting.

Ed, I'm sorry we did not pay back further on prizes. This was over looked by me and will make up the difference at the next comp.

Next time we will start like 11 O'clock am on Saturday, starting at 2 in the afternoon ran the event to late. Then possibly start 1 hour sooner on Sunday.

DaleM, I must say I'm very happy to see so many people from Michigan entered. We missed having you and Cris, but there will be many comps in the future!

Mr. McVicker, who the heck are you, showing up to your first comp and being confused about riding Sport or Expert. All I can say is GREAT JOB!

Andrew/Rudy, P.M. me I'm ready to do some practicing with you people, your like less than 2 hours to my house and my stadium section is real cool at the moment!

Please, suggestions would be appreciated for future comps.

Now, I'm willing to have another two day comp, but when, and would anybody show. It would be nice at my property because the sections are very easy to make. Problem, mosquitos are over populated.
