So I have a shimano 105 on my king with alum cassette body. And the thing is stuck there pretty good. Also almost most of the cogs are joined so I can't get them off one by one. Any ideas on how to get it off without totally destroying it?

i think you pretty much have to destroy somthing, i dont think there exists a reasonable way to go about it. if you have a special attachment to your cassette, consider taking off the cassette body and cutting it from the inside, however that will cost 2x what your cassette is worth.
perhaps you could try getting two chain whips, one around the largest cog that isnt stuck, and one around the smallest cog thats on the stuck side, and pry apart, maybe that will get the cassette out of the casette body. the pins/carrier should flex enough. who knows.

i have had the same problem what i did is get two chain whips and another cassette main carrage if all the single cogs are off and only the carrage is stuck now. take the other carrage and slide it onto the freehub then take the two chain whips, using one on one cassette and one on the other in the other direction push until it unjams it self then it should lossen up, you may need to use a big flat screwdriver to lightly pry it off or to get it started.

Actually since I want to adjust the chain line by moving the cassette inwards and I have two plastic spacers I can probably just cut them off and beat the cassette closer where I want it to be.

Also I just might have to look into trauma100's suggestion eventually...

Is there any freehub body exposed at all?

If there is (after you've removed the lockring etc) then you could try clamping the body in a vice and hammering the cassete back in the opposite direction to the usual trials forces?

This worked for me, i spose it's worth a try?

Elan's idea sounds best though...

i did the exact same thing,
2 chain whips and a single cog and then spin it till it comes out of the spot it digged into your freewheel.

i usually try to include the use of a 3lb. or larger hammer in everything that i repair.

:werd: gotta go with the steel. More expensive but worth it.

brute force always solves everything.:wuteva:

When I had individual cogs on my king, and my trials gear was fused into the drive shell. I put another cog on beside the trials one. And then put a screw driver inbetween the teeth at some odd angle, press on the screw driver with my hand and pry the trials cog out of its rut.

I include my vote for the chainwhip(s) solution if that is possible for you. Works great on mine everytime.

Thanks for the suggestions. Since I needed to move the cassette inwards towards to readjust my chain line, I realized that I could just sodomize my two plastic spacers and hammer the cassette closer to where I wanted. Since now a lot more of the hub body is exposed the dual chain whip trick should help.

Is that something bike specific or bought at an auto store?
