Hey guys,
im looking at getting a mod, and at the moment im thinking the echo team is the most likely choice. Im just unsure of what lenght to get, im about 5"7' or 169cml and im not sure whether the longer one would be appropriate. I like the idea of a uci style bike, is the shorter version still relatively long?

it depends. do you have a chance to test both?
the short would be a safer bet i think.

I think you should go with the short.
The short Echo is 1003mm so it's still considerably longer than a Monty X-lite
The Monty X-lite is 943.6mm http://monty.es/bikes/show_bike.asp?bike_id=22 (Click on the "View Geometry" link)
I just got the Long version and it's a great bike.

cwbashaw-my monty measured in at exactly 1000mm so that measurement is off. monty measuremenst have always been exagurated on their site *i think*
i would go with long. im just 5 3 and the long seems good for my riding.

well , if you look at all the top mod riders in both the uci and biu standings they all ride short bikes ( with the exception of a few , like rafal and those crazy polacks) but then again its completely up to what kind of riding style you have , like if you plan on learning to tap and moves like that , id say long ...... but who knows, its completely up to you

:hsugh:
i could tap higher on my monty than i could on my koxx, because with the shorter bike i could really lean into it or whatever more.

as far as testing opportunities goes, im fairly limited, ive tried a long briefly and it felt good, but im thinking that the small is the smarter choice. just wondering if anyone has tried both a monty or any other such small bike and a small echo, does the echo feel like a similar lenght or does it feel longer/shorter?
thanks

I have the new 221 x-lite and I love it compared to the older 221 and echo mod. I can tap higher, roll slightly higher things, and it is extremely stable on rear wheel. A very well balanced bike if you ask me. Another think I like about it is the "Stop Steering" mechanism that keeps from breaking brake lines. BTW, I'm 5'10" and don't feel cramped at all on this bike. I suggest a short for you rather than something long.

I ride a 1045 zoo and came off a 1003 echo and I'm 5'11. For me the long bike is easier to ride smooth, for gaps, roll-up and of couse front wheel moves, but I can't bunny hop the thing 2 inches. I have had to change my riding style to match the bike. Now when I jump on a short bike I feel cramped and uncomfortable. Short frames are more versatile and easier to ride in my opinion.
