i sort of know how to make one by reading old threads but how do oyu get the spring part of it to work?? or is there no spring? could someone explain how to build one of these tensioners. thanks.

you don't really need a spring. Alot of people modify their mechs by taking the main spring out.

if its for single speed then you should just set the chain to be as tight as you want it, and it'll be fine.

IMO if you can afford original tensioner it would be much better than building your own because something will go wrong. it allways does!

If you have a deraillure hanger, what you can do is take an old deraillure. Chop off the bottom roller so you're left with one. Use the position screws to lock it into place or just use a tiny peice of deraillure cable to put it where you want and walla.
You could just use a deraillure with out modifying it, it will do the same thing just dont use gears and you have your self a tensioner. That is all I do.
