View Full Version : Bike Boxx
aight, so i'll be doing a ton of traveling with my bike soon and need a box. it seems the industry standard is the trico iron cases but i just dont like how the wheels are pressed up against the frame when you close the box. the bike pro boxes seem nice too, but i dont like how they are soft and let airport thugs damage parts. so, any input is appreciated as to which is the best box and why.
thanks in advance.

cardboard boxes from bike shops work well. unless they get wet and bits of bike stick out from them. if you are really paranoid wrap the tubes of your frame in cardboard individually and get those little plastic guards for your fork and other sticking out bits, also for free from a bike shop.

i use a hard golf bag case for the frame, bars and fork and put my wheels in a carboard wheel box. works pretty well plus there is no extra charge

i still need a boxx for my koxx. hahah i was thinkin just double up two cardborrd boxes, becuase cams gnarly sick cardboard box worked so much better than my bike bag. plus he didnt have to take his bike apart
It might just be that I'm not lucky but this summer I used a cardbox from a bike shop to bring my freeride bike on a trip. I wrapped my bike and put it carefully so nothing was likely to break any part.when I took my bike back and wanted tu put my wheels on, my front wheel quick release was bent.

the golf bag things sounds the best. i think just about every airline except american has like a $50-$70 a charge for bringing a bike. if you're doing a lot of travelling, that's a lot of nickel and dime bullshit to go through.

there is absolutely nothign to worry about the wheels being pushed up against the frame with the trico...there is a reason why its #1 for "professional" bikers.
If you use a cardboard box, make sure to wrap everything like a mother fucker or all your stuff will fall out/ be stolen.
